Future college basketball stars of tomorrow make up today's Class A girls basketball all-state first team.

The all-state first team is headlined by two juniors with Division I interest, a trio of future Division II players and a promising freshman.

The all-state first team includes Wagner junior Ashlyn Koupal, Maȟpíya Lúta junior Ashlan Carlow-Blount, Sisseton senior Krista Langager, Mount Vernon/Plankinton senior Reagan Rus, Vermillion freshman Taylor Reuvers and Hamlin junior Addison Neuendorf. The all-state team is selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

A 6-foot-3 junior guard/forward, Koupal is the Class A player of the year after receiving the most all-state votes. The do-it-all wing was named this year’s Gatorade South Dakota girls basketball player of the year. Koupal is making her third consecutive Class A all-state first-team selection.

She led the Red Raiders (18-7) to a seventh-place finish at the Class A state tournament.

Koupal averaged 22.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2.3 steals per game this season. She shot 58% from the field and 85% from the free-throw line.

She recorded one quadruple-double, two triple-doubles and 10 double-doubles this season.

She’s totaled 1,939 points, 860 rebounds, 364 assists, 287 blocks and 189 steals in her career. Koupal is a nationally ranked prospect in the Class of 2026, including No. 9 nationally by 247sports.com. She’s received scholarship offers from major Division I programs Duke, Baylor, Iowa, Louisville, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa State and Kansas, among others.

“Ashlyn played with a lot of physicality this season as she had to be chased, double and triple teamed, and a lot of times just corralled or pushed around on the court,” said Wagner coach Mike Koupal, Ashlyn’s father. “She has great court awareness and vision. Her teammates knew where to be when she was doubled and that led her to leading Wagner in assists tallying 122 for the season.”

Carlow-Blount was a second-team all-state selection last season, while she earned third-team honors in 2023. A versatile 6-foot junior guard, averaged 19.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 5.5 steals per game this season.

She shot 42% from the 3-point line, 50% from the field and 78% from the free-throw line this season.

For her career, Carlow-Blount has tallied 1,364 points, 512 rebounds, 462 assists, 362 steals and 47 blocks.

Carlow-Blount posted nine double-doubles and one triple-double during her junior season. She’s landed Division I scholarship offers from South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Sacramento State.

“Ashlan Carlow-Blount was a driving force behind Maȟpíya Lúta’s historic season,” Maȟpíya Lúta coach Matt Rama said. “Her leadership and all-around play helped guide the team to an undefeated regular season, a Black Hills Conference title, a Lakota Nation Invitational championship, and a state runner-up finish.”

A 6-foot-2 senior center, Langager is a repeat first-team selection and was a third-team honoree in 2023. Langager averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds per game this season, while swatting 51 shots. She shot 66% from the field and 63% from the free-throw line. For her career, Langager finished with 1,739 points, 976 rebounds and 144 blocked shots. She will play college basketball at Division II University of Sioux Falls.

“Krista will be greatly missed on the court, but just as much off the court,” Sisseton coach Sara Lincoln said. “She has a heart of gold and gave the game of basketball everything she had. It was inspiring to watch her grow and improve every season.”

A 5-foot-9 senior guard, Rus was a third-team all-state selection last season. She averaged 19.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. She finished her career with 1,461 points, 599 rebounds, 257 assists, 186 steals and 83 blocked shots.

Rus, who will play at Division II Northern State University, was the Class A Spirit of Su award winner at the state tourney.

“Reagan might be the most athletic player I've seen on a basketball court,” MVP coach Preston Kristensen said. “She can play off the ball, work inside, and play the one which she had to do this year for us. She is also a prolific defender which added to our defensive success throughout her career. I'm probably most proud of the leader she was for us this year and the way she elevated her teammates. You won't find a harder worker and she is an even better person.”

A 5-foot-5 freshman guard, Reuvers was a third-team all-state honoree last season. She averaged 17 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals per game during her freshman campaign. For her career, Reuvers has registered 767 points, 258 assists, 247 rebounds and 191 steals. Reuvers already has a scholarship offer from Division I South Dakota.

“Taylor has the unique ability to take over a game when needed, but also knows how to get everyone on the floor involved,” Vermillion coach Jon Brooks said. “She has a competitive edge that is unmatched. When the game is on the line, she wants the ball and doesn't shy away from those moments. For how good her skill set is, it's her competitive drive and willingness to do whatever it takes to win that impresses me the most.”

A 5-foot-6 junior guard, Neuendorf is making her second consecutive all-state first-team selection. She was a third-team honoree in 2023. This season, Neuendorf averaged 14.1 points, 4.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game.

She added 61 steals, while shooting 76% from the free-throw line, 40% from the field and 36% from the 3-point line. Neuendorf scored her 1,000th career point this season.

She has verbally committed to play basketball at Division II Northern State University.

“Addie is the ultimate point guard,” Hamlin coach Tim Koisti said. “She makes great decisions with the ball in her hands. She can push the pace to start a fast break, or she can slow us down and get us into a set. She scores in clutch moments and knows how to get her teammates easy looks.”
