The Class AA SoDak 16 girls basketball games are set for Friday across the state. The eight winners will qualify for the Class AA girls basketball tournament on March 10-12 in Rapid City.

Here’s a look at each matchup:

Note: The higher seeds will host and times are Central.

No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington (19-1) vs. No. 16 Sioux Falls Roosevelt (2-18), 6 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Washington is after a repeat championship and its fifth consecutive berth in the Class AA state tournament.

Washington has been No. 1 or No. 2 all season in Class AA. The Warriors’ lone defeat was a 61-52 setback against O’Gorman, but they avenged it with a 60-46 win later in the season.

The Warriors are on a 13-game winning streak and defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt (68-43) during the regular season. Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, a 6-foot-2 forward, leads the Warriors and will play next season at the University of Texas.

Sioux Falls Roosevelt is looking for its first state berth since 2020 (canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Roosevelt’s two wins were against Yankton (47-44) and Aberdeen Central (70-39).

No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman (17-3) vs. No. 15 Yankton (6-14), 6 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS — Perennial power Sioux Falls O’Gorman is zeroing in on another trip to state.

The Knights, who finished third last season, handed No. 1 Washington’s lone defeat of the season. O’Gorman defeated the Warriors (61-51) in January, but dropped a 60-46 decision in February. O’Gorman has also lost to Huron (58-51) and Brandon Valley (70-66).

The Knights are powered by Colorado State University signee Hannah Ronsiek.

Yankton dropped a 68-33 decision against O’Gorman on Jan. 15. The Gazelles are after their first state tourney berth since 2020 (canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

No. 3 Brandon Valley (16-4) vs. No. 14 Spearfish (8-12), 6 p.m.

BRANDON — The Lynx are chasing their sixth straight state tourney berth.

Brandon Valley, which placed fourth last season, dropped three straight games this season against Rapid City Central (47-46), Rapid City Stevens (44-36) and Sioux Falls Washington (52-39). But Brandon Valley enters Friday’s contest on a four-game winning streak. The Lynx are led by junior Hilary Behrens, who is already committed to South Dakota State University.

Brandon Valley’s four-game winning streak included a 45-35 win over Spearfish on Feb. 17. The Spartans are searching for their state tournament berth since 2014. Spearfish enters the elimination game on a three-game winning streak.

No. 4 Rapid City Stevens (16-4) vs. No. 13 Brookings (7-12) 7 p.m.

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Stevens is one win away from its 10th straight Class AA state tournament berth.

The Raiders, who lost to Washington in last year’s state championship, won five of their last seven games entering the SoDak 16 contest. Stevens split with rival Rapid City Central, winning 51-40 on Jan. 28 and losing 43-39 on Dec. 18. If both teams win on Friday, they will meet in the first round of the state tourney.

Stevens has also lost to O’Gorman (50-36), Huron (60-57) and Washington (57-44). It defeated No. 3 seed Brandon Valley (44-36) during the regular season. Senior all-stater Jayda McNabb powers the Raiders.

Brookings is after its first state tournament berth since 2019. The Bobcats lost to Stevens (64-35) during the regular season.

No. 5 Rapid City Central (15-5) vs. No. 12 Watertown (9-11), 7 p.m.

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Central is looking for a repeat trip to the state tournament.

The Cobblers, who finished eighth last season, recorded a six-game winning streak this year to bolster their 15-5 record. Central split with rival Rapid City Stevens during the regular season. The Cobblers won 43-39 in the first meeting, while they dropped a 51-40 decision in the second contest. After the 51-40 defeat, Central knocked off No. 3 seed Brandon Valley (47-46) the next night. Rapid City Central is led by Division I Chicago State University signee Josie Hill, a 6-foot-2 forward.

Watertown dropped a 43-23 decision against Rapid City Central during the regular season. The Arrows are looking for their first trip to state since 2009.

No. 6 Huron (12-8) vs. No. 11 Harrisburg (8-12), 7 p.m.

HURON — It will be an all-Tiger battle for a spot to state.

Huron is looking for its first trip since 2015, while Harrisburg is after its 10th straight trip.

Huron has alternated wins and losses during its last seven games, including a 58-51 win over No. 2 seed O’Gorman in the season finale. Huron also split with the Rapid City schools in mid-February. Huron’s Isabelle Ellwein recorded 19 points and four 3-pointers in its win over O’Gorman on Feb. 26.

Harrisburg defeated Huron, 53-49, on Jan. 8 in Harrisburg. Harrisburg dropped four straight contests against Rapid City Central, Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Spearfish, but picked up wins over Watertown and Brookings to end the regular season.

No. 7 Sioux Falls Lincoln (9-11) vs. No. 10 Mitchell (9-11), 7 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS — Mitchell is looking for its third straight state tourney berth, while Lincoln is going after its fourth since 2018.

They met in the regular season, with Mitchell picking up a 55-33 win in Sioux Falls. Lincoln enters the contest on a three-game losing skid, while Mitchell has lost five straight to end the regular season. The Kernels did capture eight straight wins before the season-ending losing streak. Mitchell’s leading scorer, Sawyer Stoebner, missed part of the season with an injury and returned to the lineup late in the year.

No. 8 Sioux Falls Jefferson (10-10) vs. No. 9 Pierre (10-10), 7 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Jefferson is one step away from history.

The Cavaliers, in their first season of existence, can advance to state with a win over the Governors. Jefferson dropped a 43-40 decision against Pierre on Feb. 22 in Sioux Falls.

The Cavaliers have alternated wins and losses the past six games, while Pierre is riding a four-game winning streak.

The Governors are after their first state tournament appearance since 2017.
