Gracelyn Leiseth, Kael Miedema, Simeon Birnbaum shine at Friday's Nike Outdoor Nationals

EUGENE, Oregon — South Dakota throwers shined and an all-time state relay record was set at Friday’s Nike Outdoor Nationals. 

Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth placed second in the girls discus throw. The future University of Florida thrower finished with a toss of 161-feet, finishing behind Madeleine Fey (178-5) of Texas. 

Sioux Falls Washington’s Kael Miedema placed third in the shot put. The future University of Nebraska thrower had a toss of 64-feet and eight-inches in the shot put, which is a new personal record and eighth best all-time in South Dakota history. 

Rapid City Stevens’ Simeon Birnbaum placed third in the men’s 1,500-meter professional run in 3:37.93, finishing just behind Matt Wisner (3:36.87) and Connor Mantz (3:37.92). 

The Sioux Falls Christian boys placed third in the 800-meter relay. The quartet of Jahaeim Reuer, Carter VanDonge, Noah Schroder and Josiah Adams clocked in with a time of 1:27.42. It’s the fastest 800-meter relay time in South Dakota history. 

South Dakota runners Libby Castelli, Kellen Askew, Julia Eggert and Sam Castle won the mixed 1,600-meter relay in 3:35.06.
