Gregory's Taos Weborg scores top bareback ride at Tuesday's National High School Finals Rodeo

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Gregory’s Taos Weborg highlighted South Dakota’s performers at Tuesday’s National High School Finals Rodeo. 

In the bareback riding, Weborg recorded a 74 during Tuesday’s morning performance, the highest score of the day and moved him into second in the standings. 

In the reined cow horse, Winner’s Garret Phillips (292), Pine Ridge’s Chase Brunsch (290.5) and Pierre’s Ryen Sheppick (290.5) all earned top-five finishes in their performances. 

Hemingford, Nebraska’s Sophie Hruby, who is representing South Dakota, recorded a 2.92 seconds in the breakaway roping, the third best in Tuesday’s evening performance. 

In the pole bending, Sturgis’ Arina Haugen scored a 20.332 in Tuesday’s morning performance, the fourth best time. Haugen sits atop the All-Around Rookie Cowgirl standings with 155 points, and she’s sitting seventh in the All-Around Cowgirl standings. 

Hoven’s Ethan Johnson had the fifth-best score (52) in Tuesday’s morning performance. 

In the boys team standings, South Dakota is fourth with 940 points. Oklahoma (1,235), Utah (1,172.83) and Texas (1,087.50) are ahead of South Dakota in the boys standings. 

In the girls team standings, South Dakota is 12th with 440 points.
