Hanson girls, Canistota boys claim Cornbelt Conference titles

FREEMAN — The Hanson girls and Canistota boys captured team titles at Wednesday’s Cornbelt Conference cross-country meet. 

Hanson finished with eight team points, finishing ahead of Menno (25) and Howard (29). The Hawks recorded 10 points, just ahead of Hanson (16) and McCrossan (20). 

Individually, Hanson’s Taziah Hawkins won the 5,000-meter run in 21 minutes and :42.81 seconds at Valley View Golf Course. Menno’s Ashton Massey (21:46.79) and Hanson’s Eliza Oltmanns (22:02.43) placed second and third, respectively. Hanson’s Reese Marek (22:26.99) and Hanson’s Cadence Jarding (22:42.99) rounded out the top-five runners.

On the boys side, Canistota’s Josiah Schroeder won the 5,000-meter race in 16:42.56, while Howard’s Caden Schwader (18:08.75) placed second. McCrossan’s Ethan Hartung (18:13.65), Howard’s Conner Geidd (18:50.77) and Irene-Wakonda’s Christopher Haich (19:18.53) rounded out the top-five finishers.
