BROOKINGS — Trailing Mitchell by seven strokes entering Day 2 of the Class AA state golf tournament in Brookings, the Harrisburg girls took over. 

After posting a 335 on Day 1, Harrisburg shot a 326 on Tuesday for a 661 to earn a three-stroke win over second-place Mitchell (664) and third-place Rapid City Stevens (665). 

Pierre (666) and Aberdeen Central (667) rounded out the top five as first through fifth were separated by just six strokes. 

Defending champion, Harrisburg’s Reese Jansa fired an even par 72 on Tuesday, finishing with 148 strokes, three ahead of Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Lauren Sutcliffe (151) and five better than Huron’s Bryn Huber, Rapid City Stevens’ Tanna Phares and Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink who all shot (153) and tied for third place. 

Rounding out the top-10 were Harrisburg’s Mattie Weidenbach (156), Watertown’s Riley Zebroski (159), Aberdeen Central’s Emma Dohrer (160) and Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun, Spearfish’s Alison Kennedy and Pierre’s Madilyn Brakke who all shot (163) and tied for ninth.
