Hill City boys, Spearfish girls win Black Hills Conference cross-country races

RAPID CITY — The Hill City boys and Spearfish girls won team cross-country titles at Thursday’s Black Hills Conference meet run at the Hart Ranch Camping Grounds. 

The Hill City boys scored just 22 points, ahead of Sturgis (37) and Custer (55). Belle Fourche (56) and Douglas (57) rounded out the top-five teams in a very competitive conference. 

The Spearfish girls continue to impress and easily won Thursday’s conference title with 16 points, ahead of Hill City (44) and Sturgis (48). Belle Fourche (79) and Douglas (83) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Hill City’s Luke Rupert ran the 5,000-meter course in 15:34, ahead of Douglas’ Peyton Cast (15:50) and Belle Fourche’s Lane Krautschun (16:00). Hill City’s Tate Grabow (16:02) and Sturgis’ Ty Petrocco (16:06) rounded out the top-five runners.

Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest won Thursday’s 5,000-meter race in 18:27, ahead of Hill City’s Abby Cutler (19:03) and Spearfish’s Kori Kell (19:22). Douglas’s Kira Ubence (19:55) and Red Cloud’s Rarity Cournoyer (20:03) rounded out the top-five girls finishers.
