While no team points were kept at Friday’s Northern Hills Invitational, held at Jorgensen Park in Spearfish, the Hill City boys stood out.  

Hill City senior Luke Rupert (15:48) won the race, ahead of Sheridan, Wyoming’s Landrum Wiley (16:07) and Hill City teammate Leighton Aves (16:15). Rapid City Stevens’ Grady Loos (16:21) and Sturgis’ Ty Petrocco (16:27) rounded out the top-five runners. 

Hill City, expected to be one of the top teams in Class A, had strong finishes from Tate Grabow (17:28) and Branden Escalante (17:59),

In the girls race, Spearfish freshman Peyton VanDeest won the individual race by 44 seconds.

VanDeest (18:34) finished ahead of Hill City’s Abby Cutler (19:10) and Sheridan, Wyoming's Kaylie Alicke (19:21). Gracie Uhre of Rapid City Stevens (19:35) and Spearfish’s Kori Kell rounded out the top-five.
