Hill City sweeps team, individual titles at Region 5A cross-country meet

RAPID CITY — The Hill City cross-country teams swept the team and individual cross-country titles at Wednesday’s Region 5A meet run at the Hart Ranch.

The Hill City girls won the girls team title scoring 26 points, ahead of Custer (30) and Belle Fourche (31). St. Thomas More (68) and St. Francis Indian School (93) rounded out the top-five teams.  

The Hill City boys won the Region 5A team title scoring just 15 points, ahead of Belle Fourche (30) and Custer (33). Rapid City Christian (61) and Hot Springs (92) rounded out the top-five team finishers.

Hill City’s Abby Cutler won the Region 5A title covering the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes and 17.45 seconds, ahead of Red Cloud’s Rarity Cournoyer (19:44) and Custer’s Brit Wheeler (19:53). Belle Fourche seventh grader Lia Mundt (20:16) and Rapid City Christian’s Taylor Harrelson (20:17) rounded out the top-five female finishers. 

Hill City’s Luke Rupert ran his 5,000-meter race in 15:33, ahead of Belle Fourche’s Lane Krautschun (15:53) and HIll City’s Leighton Aves (16:03). Custer’s Sean Shipp (16:09) and Hill City’s Tate Grabow (16:14) rounded out the top-five boys finishers.
