MITCHELL — Chris Hill sent the Plankinton F&M Bankers to the second round of the South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Tournament with a walk-off two-run home run off the scoreboard in right field.

Hill’s blast broke the 8-8 tie in the bottom of the 11th inning against Clark to send the Bankers to Sunday’s second-round match up with Menno, which defeated Redfield Dairy Queen 10-8 earlier on Thursday afternoon.

Clark jumped out to a 7-1 lead after four innings but Plankinton slowly chipped away — adding four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5. The Bankers then added a run in the second and tied it at 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Hill led Plankinton with three hits including a double in the eighth to go along with his home run. Cole Knippling added two hits.

Tyler Brinka led Clark with three hits while Zach Toben, Rhett Florey, Grayson Florey, Andrew Magendanz and John Koenig each added two hits.

Travis Grant picked up the win for Plankinton after he came in to relive Josh Engquist. Gant pitched the final 7 1/3 innings, giving up one run on seven hits while striking out six and walking two.

Zach Toben took the loss for Clark — pitching five innings after coming in for relief for legion pick-up player Nicolai Arbach. Toben gave up four runs on six hits.

Earlier in the day, Menno broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh inning with four runs to move on to the second round.
