Jan. 17 Girls Basketball Roundup - St. Thomas More outlasts No. 7 Dakota Valley at Hanson Classic

St. Thomas More 57, Dakota Valley 52 

MITCHELL — Three players scored in double figures to power St. Thomas More to a girls basketball win over Class A No. 7 Dakota Valley at Saturday’s Hanson Classic. 

STM’s Rachael Hyde finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Enna Henry totaled 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and three 3-pointers. Brynn Donnelly scored 11 points. Leighton Scherr had eight points. 

For DV, Aubree Worden scored a game-high 23 points and totaled seven rebounds. Katie Betsworth and Alexa Verdoorn scored nine points apiece. Verdoorn grabbed six rebounds. 


Wagner 54, Hamlin 48 

MITCHELL — Class A No. 5 Wagner rallied from a 14-point first-quarter deficit for a girls basketball win over Class A No. 3 Hamlin at Saturday’s Hanson Classic. 

Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal totaled 27 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Peyton Wiechmann added 10 points. Hayden Knudsen had six points and three rebounds. Braxton Nevded totaled five points and three rebounds.

For Hamlin, Addison Neuendorf recorded 27 points, eight 3-pointers and four rebounds. Addelyn Jensen totaled 13 points and nine rebounds. Issie Steffensen had six points, four assists and three rebounds.  


Rapid City Christian 55, Sioux Falls Christian 54

RAPID CITY — Three players scored in double figures as Rapid City Christian edged Class A No. 5 Sioux Falls Christian in overtime in girls basketball action. 

Rapid City Christian’s Sadie Marshall scored 16 points and Brynn Casey totaled 14 points. Nia Selfridge had 10 points and Nora Kieffer scored seven points. 

Sioux Falls Christian stats were not reported.


Mahpiya Luta 66, Lennox 56

MITCHELL — Four players reached double figures as Class A No. 1 Mahpiya Luta knocked off Class A No. 2 Lennox at Saturday’s Hanson Classic.

Mya Mills led the Crusaders with 14 points, Ashlan Carlow-Blount added 12 points, five rebounds, nine assists and five steals, Dorthie Mesteth added 12 points, three steals and two assists, Peyton Knife collected 12 points and three rebounds while Jayden Standing Soldier poured in nine points and three rebounds in the win.

For Lennox, Andie Peters had 18 points, Bergan Musser recorded 13 points and seven rebounds, Karlie Bosma added 10 points and three rebounds while Tori Gerdes collected eight points, seven rebounds and six assists in the loss.


Lyman 62, Mobridge-Pollock 59

MITCHELL — Class B No. 1 Lyman held off a late comeback from Class A No. 10 Mobridge-Pollock at Saturday’s Hanson Classic. 

Lyman’s Mak Scott totaled 22 points and seven rebounds. Bree Smart added 14 points and five rebounds. Kenzie Wagner finished with eight points, six rebounds. Jordyn Scott had seven points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Brooke Montgomery totaled seven points and three rebounds. 

For Mobridge-Pollock, Blake Thompson netted 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and hit four 3-pointers. Tegan Konold added 12 points and three rebounds. Jacy Netterville scored seven points for the Tigers, who trailed by 15 points in the third quarter. Mobridge-Pollock cut the deficit to one point in the fourth quarter, but never captured the lead.


Clark/Willow Lake 42, Flandreau 31

CLARK — A balanced scoring attack paced Clark/Willow Lake over Flandreau in girls basketball action Saturday.

Brynn Roehrich tallied 12 points and nine rebounds, Kamryn Nesheim had eight points, four rebounds and three steals while Shelby Begeman and Jenny Bevers each had six points in the win.
For Flandreau, Morgan Sheppard tallied 12 points, six rebounds and three steals, Hannah Krull had five points and eight rebounds while Tenley LeBrun added six points in the loss.


Deubrook Area 52, Beresford 39

WHITE — Mataya Gouws poured in 18 points as Deubrook Area defeated Beresford at Saturday’s Dakota Valley Conference Classic.

Gouws finished with 18 points in the win, Matte Bauman had 11 points, Kylee Johnson tallied eight points while Peyton Trooien collected seven points in the win.
For Beresford, Ella Merriman had 25 points while Harley Koth tallied nine points in the loss.


Corsica-Stickney 53, Harding County 46 

MITCHELL — Hadynn Johnson and Braylee Bordewyk powered Corsica-Stickney to a girls basketball win over Class B No. 6 Harding County at Saturday’s Hanson Classic.

Johnson finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Bordewyk added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Remi Nelson totaled nine points, while Sophie DeLange had eight points. Macayla Gerlach had seven points and four rebounds. 

For Harding County, Raelee Hunsucker had 11 points and four rebounds. Macey Wendt and Kamry Padden scored nine points apiece. Padden added five assists and four steals. Kaylen Padden had six points and Maci Wammen added five points. 


Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 54, Elk Point-Jefferson 41

MITCHELL — Addison Bartholow and Liz Boschee powered Class B No. 9 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket to a girls basketball win at Saturday’s Hanson Classic. 

Bartholow finished with 16 points and three 3-pointers. Boschee added 13 points and 16 rebounds. Cami Edwards totaled nine points, four assists and three rebounds. Lainey Goertz had eight points and nine rebounds. 

For EPJ, Cera Schmitz finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three 3-pointers. Makinley Hammitt and Paige Jacobs scored six points apiece. Molly Geary added five points.


Gayville-Volin 52, Burke 18

BURKE — Taylox Hoxeng and Maia Achen powered Class B No. 10 Gayville-Volin to a girls basketball win on Saturday.

Hoxeng finished with 19 points and Achen added 13 points. 

For Burke, Emmie Hausmann had eight points and three rebounds. Annie Connot grabbed nine rebounds.


Castlewood 44, Luverne (Minn.) 35

WHITE — Ava Ruml and Sophia Kudrna combined for 30 points as Castlewood picked up a Dakota Valley Conference Classic victory Saturday.

Ruml finished with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds, Kudrna added 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Claire Horn collected eight points, six rebounds and three assists in the win.


Waubay-Summit 59, Arlington 42

WHITE — Addison Heinje’s 23-point performance lifted Waubay-Summit over Arlington in girls basketball action at Saturday’s Dakota Valley Conference Classic.

Heinje led the Mustangs with 23 points, Caley Bolk tallied 9 points, Kayce Berger added eight points, Liza Purdy totaled seven points while Brynlee Amdahl and Peyton Rumpza each had six points in the win.

For Arlington, Lauryn Mutziger had 16 points, Jaelyn Huntimer added eight points while Seeley VanOverbeke and Sony Johnson each had six points in the loss.


Woodbury Central (Iowa) 59, Hanson 34

MITCHELL — Hanson dropped a girls basketball game against Woodbury Central (Minn.) at Saturday’s Hanson Classic. 

Woodbury Central’s Genna Widman scored a game-high 20 points. 

Hanson’s Ava Doyle finished with nine points. Kendra Endorf added six points, while Rylee Furgeson and Hannah Easton scored five points apiece.
