Jan. 2 Boys Basketball Roundup - No. 1 Harrisburg holds off No. 2 Mitchell in overtime

Harrisburg 62, Mitchell 53 (OT)

MITCHELL — Class AA No. 1 Harrisburg outscored Class AA No. 2 Mitchell, 11-2, in overtime to help secure a boys basketball win on Tuesday.

Braeden VanBockern led the Tigers with 32 points and five 3-pointers. Braeden Feeldy and Camden Phipps scored nine points apiece. Phipps added seven boards, while Maddox Plack logged eight points and five rebounds. 

For Mitchell, Colton Smith finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. Gavin Soukup recorded 17 points, five rebounds and three 3-pointers. Markus Talley added 16 points, four assists, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Gavin Hinker logged five boards. 

 

Gayville-Volin 59, Scotland 50

GAVYILLE — Gayville-Volin’s Spencer Karstens scored his 1,000th career point in a boys basketball win over Scotland on Tuesday.

Karstens finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Hunter Wuebben and Preston Karstens scored nine points apiece. 

For Scotland, Kory Koppen logged 12 points and six rebounds. Parker Hochstein added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jayce Walloch had nine points and six rebounds. 


Hitchcock-Tulare 62, Iroquois/Lake Preston 56 (OT) 

IROQUOIS — Hitchcock-Tulare clipped Iroquois/Lake Preston in overtime for a boys basketball win on Tuesday.

HT’s Jackson Maynard recorded 22 points, while Patrick Maynard added 20 points. Erik Salmen tallied 15 points and Brendan Nowell had six points.

For Iroquois/Lake Preston, Lucas Peskey finished with 15 points and Josh McMasters had 10 points. Daunte Glanzer finished with nine points, while Weston Woodcock had eight points. Ryne Greene tallied seven points. 


Ipswich 64, Northwestern 34

IPSWICH — Ipswich picked up a 30-point boys basketball win on Tuesday.

Ipswich’s Jace Konsor finished with 21 points, while Chet Peterson had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Trevor Heinz logged seven points and six rebounds. Kyle Hettich added six points and four rebounds. Xavier Kadlec tallied four points and four rebounds.

For Northwestern, Lincoln Woodring finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Patrick Olson and Carson Ewalt scored six points apiece. Dawson Ward finished with nine rebounds. Jack Hansen added five points and Olson grabbed five boards. 


Canistota 57, Elk Point-Jefferson 44

CANISTOTA — Tage Ortman paced Canistota to a boys basketball win on Tuesday.

Ortman finished with 29 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Brady Scott and Brandon Kjetland scored 13 points apiece. Scott hit three 3-pointers. 

For EPJ, Evan Fornia scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Ashton Fairbanks scored nine points, while Reed Sayler had six points. Kayden Moore added five points 


White River 83, Kadoka Area 52

WHITE RIVER — Nic Marshall powered Class B No. 4 White River to a boys basketball win on Tuesday.

Marshall scored 37 points, finishing 14 of 21 from the field and 8 of 9 at the free-throw line. Mackenzie Wike added 17 points, while Ray Crow scored 13 points. Jordan Uhlir scored six points, while Evastine Wright had five points.

For Kadoka Area, Garrett Hermann scored 17 points. Karson Eisenbraun added eight points. 

 

Parkston 58, Hanson 54

PARKSTON — Three players scored in double figures to pace Parkston to a boys basketball win over Hanson on Tuesday.

Parkston’s Luke Bormann finished with 22 points, while Will Jodozi had 15 points and eight rebounds. Payton Koehn had seven points and five rebounds. 

For Hanson, A.J. Wilber had 18 points, while Jayce Slaba added 17 points. Ben Wilber scored 13 points. Ben Wilber and Sutton Dewald both had five rebounds.


Howard 76, Menno 25

HOWARD — Five players scored in double figures to pace Howard to a boys basketball win on Tuesday.

Howard’s Luke Koepsell recorded 19 points, while Carson Hinker scored 13 points. Taiden Hoyer finished with 11 points. Colby Claussen and Kolt Koepsell scored 10 points apiece. Carson Mentele had eight points. 

For Menno, Adam Munkvold finished with 10 points. Isaac Fergen scored eight points. 


Vermillion 69, Tea Area 49

VERMILLION — Vermillion pulled away from Tea Area for a boys basketball win on Tuesday.

Vermillion’s Trey Hansen finished with 26 points. Zoan Robinson finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while Bryson Skogsberg added 10 points and six boards. 

Tea Area’s Sam Almas had 23 points, eight rebounds and five 3-pointers. Marshall Smythe had six points and six rebounds, while Grif Wiebenga scored five points. 


Milbank 80, Britton-Hecla 17 

MILBANK — Three players scored in double figures to pace Milbank to a boys basketball win over Britton-Hecla on Tuesday.

Milbank’s Joe Schulte finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Yohana Ajwanga recorded 16 points and eight boards. Garrett Mertens added 13 points. Jackson Wildung and Esteban Abrego-Gonzalez had six points apiece. Sam Rick and Braylen Bowsher scored five points apiece.

For Britton-Hecla, Ty Fagerland and Chaz Vietor scored four points apiece. 


Leola-Frederick Area 69, Wilmot 41

WILMOT — Leola-Frederick Area improved to 6-0 with a boys basketball win over Wilmot on Tuesday.

Leola-Frederick Area’s Noah Kippley finished with 17 points, while Milo Sumption logged 11 points. Brayden Sumption scored eight points. 

For Wilmot, Keitrick Genia scored 12 points. Maddux Foss recorded nine points, while Zahnray Kohl and Zane Owen scored five points apiece.
