Jan. 10 Basketball Roundup - Sutton Arend's double-double lifts Bridgewater-Emery to win

Boys basketball 

Bridgewater-Emery 58, Colman-Egan 30

COLMAN — Sutton Arend had a big performance to help lift Bridgewater-Emery to a boys basketball win over Colman-Egan on Monday.

Arend finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks, while Sam Hofer recorded 14 points and five assists. Camdyn Stoterau and Aguer Van Sickle each scored five points.

Colman-Egan’s Ben Zwart tallied nine points, while Logan Voelker netted eight points.


Aberdeen Roncalli 60, Leola/Frederick Area 45

ABERDEEN — Aberdeen Roncalli pulled away from Leola/Frederick Area for a boys basketball victory on Monday. 

Roncalli’s Keegan Stewart tossed in a game-high 21 points, while Zee Mounga added 10 points. Maddox Miller and Maddox May scored eight points apiece. 

Leola/Frederick Area’s Noah Kippley and Brayden Sumption scored eight and seven points, respectively. 


Tea Area 81, Canton 52

TEA — Three players scored in double figures to lead Class A No. 5 Tea Area to a boys basketball win over Canton on Monday. 

Jeff Worth led the Titans with 19 points and hit three 3-pointers, while Cael Lundin logged 18 points and four steals. Reis Kirschenman posted 14 points and eight boards. Jonah Kocer added 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Sam Almas scored five points and Cole Schilling grabbed six rebounds. 

Canton’s Peyton Eben and Jacob Vande Weerd scored 13 points apiece. Vande Weerd grabbed nine rebounds. Braxton Mulder had eight points, while Derek Tieszen recorded seven points. 


Sioux Falls O’Gorman 62, Sioux Falls Washington 51

SIOUX FALLS — Four players scored in double figures to pace Class AA No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman to a boys basketball victory over Sioux Falls Washington on Monday.

O’Gorman’s Rush Landry finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while David Alpers logged 16 points and six rebounds. Matthew Eng and John Costello scored 12 points apiece, while Costello added seven rebounds. 

Washington’s Mikele Kambalo finished with 14 points, while Joe Uttecht added 13 points. Mandalla Mohamed had 12 points. Tommy Peterson posted five points and five rebounds. 


Girls basketball 

Sioux Falls O’Gorman 61, Sioux Falls Washington 52

SIOUX FALLS — Class AA No. 2 Sioux Falls O’Gorman used a 21-6 third quarter to help pull the upset of Class AA No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington in a girls basketball game on Monday.

Hannah Ronsiek led the Knights with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Kira Mentele scored 16 points. Mahli Adbouch recorded 11 points and five assists, while Bergen Reilly collected nine rebounds.

Sioux Falls Washington’s Ndjakale Mwenentanda scored a game-high 21 points along with eight rebounds and three assists. Hannah Harpe scored nine points and six boards, while Alexus Motley recorded eight points. Brooklyn Harpe added seven points.

 

Tea Area 72, Canton 61

TEA — Tea Area built an early lead and held off Canton for a girls basketball win on Monday. 

Katie Vasecka led the Titans with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Brynn Schuppner added 17 points and nine boards. Stella Peterson posted 11 points, while Kendra McKinney added nine points and four steals. Mara Grant and Cassidy Gors scored six and points, respectively. Grant grabbed five rebounds. 

Canton’s Amanda Lease poured in a game-high 34 points, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded seven steals. Shelby Olseth added 10 points. Landry Meister collected seven rebounds.


Vermillion 52, Bon Homme 42

TYNDALL — Vermillion used a 17-5 second quarter to pull away from Bon Homme in a girls basketball game on Monday.

Brooke Jensen led all scorers with 20 points, while Kasey Hanson recorded 12 points.

Bon Homme’s Jaden Kortan scored 16 points, while Jurni Vavruska added 14 points. Olivia Bares collected eight rebounds and three steals.


Mobridge-Pollock 66, Standing Rock, N.D., 38

MOBRIDGE — Mobridge-Pollock jumped out to a 20-10 first-quarter lead and topped Standing Rock, North Dakota, in girls basketball action on Monday. 

Mariah Goehring led the Tigers with 18 points and four assists. Landyn Henderson added 17 points and five rebounds. Reagan Weisbeck logged 10 points and four assists, while Heidi Olson had seven points, seven rebounds and five assists. 

Standing Rock’s Kayleigh Thunder Hawk finished with 10 points and six rebounds. 


Ipswich 42, Langford Area 36

IPSWICH — Ipswich used a 12-2 third quarter to hold off Langford Area for a girls basketball win on Monday.

Katie Bierman led the Tigers with 24 points and six rebounds. Quincy Olivier logged eight points, six assists and four rebounds. Karlie Gohl added five points.

Langford Area’s Katherine Jensen scored 15 points, while Olyvia Dwight added eight points, four assists, four steals and four rebounds.
