Jared Lutmer, Peyton VanDeest claim Clyde Cotton Invitational titles

HURON — Pierre’s Jared Lutmer and Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest won individual titles at Saturday’s Clyde Cotton Invitational.

Lutmer covered the 5,000-meter distance at Broadland Creek Golf Course in 15 minutes and :34.62 seconds. Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters followed in second place, clocking in at 15:51.14. Douglas’ Peyton Cast (16:06.12), Sioux Falls Washington’s Cole Reilly (16:06.18) and Douglas’ Wyatt Weigelt (16:20.23) rounded out the top-five runners.

VanDeest won the girls race in 18:19.01. Flandreau’s Faith Wiese (18:24.49) and Brandon Valley’s Addison Scholten (18:28.53) finished second and third, respectively. Chester’s Emery Larson (18:35.66) and Brandon Valley’s Mia Wentzy (18:55.07) rounded out the top-five finishers.

In the boys team standings, Brookings (90) edged Washington (96) for the team title. Brandon Valley (98), Custer (100) and Aberdeen Central (104) rounded out the top-five teams.

In the girls team standings, Brandon Valley easily won the team title with 25 points, finishing ahead of Chamberlain (95) and Pierre (99). Watertown (118) and Flandreau (133) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
