Jared Lutmer and Mia Wentzy run to titles at Watoma Invitational

WATERTOWN — Pierre’s Jared Lutmer and Brandon Valley’s Mia Wentzy claimed individual titles at Thursday’s Watoma Invitational at the Cattail Crossing Golf Course. 

Lutmer finished the 5,000 meter course in 16 minutes and :00.95 seconds, well ahead of O’Gorman’s Jack Castelli (16:43) and Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters (16:46). Cole Reilly of Sioux Falls Washington (16:48) and Pierre’s Rylan Afdahl (17:04) rounded out the top-five boys finishers. 

Wentzy covered the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes and :03.7 seconds, ahead of Harrisburg seventh-graders Hannah Genrich (19:23) and Autumn Gilhooly (19:51). Brandon Valley’s Sarah VandeBerg (20:00) and Watertown’s Grace McElroy (20:01) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

Brandon Valley earned the team title scoring 86 points, just ahead of Pierre (88) and Sioux Falls Washington (94). Aberdeen Central (103) and Brookings (108) rounded out the top-five boys teams.

Brandon Valley scored 27 points to win the girls team title, ahead of Harrisburg (34) and O’Gorman (101). Pierre (119) and Watertown (143) rounded out the top-five girls teams.
