July 10 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Platte picks up Sunshine League victory over Mount Vernon

Platte Killer Tomatoes 7, Mount Vernon Mustangs 4

PLATTE — Owen London struck out five batters and Sheldon Gant hammered a home run to lift Platte to a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Mount Vernon on Sunday.

London scattered eight hits, allowed four earned runs and walked three batters in his eight-inning start. Gant’s two-run homer came in the eighth inning to reach the final margin. 

Hunter Hewitt, Derek Soukup and Preston Nedved finished with two hits apiece. Hayden Kuiper and Michael Buitenbos each had a hit. Ryan Allen, Soukup, Hewitt and Nedved each drove in runs. 

Mount Vernon’s Brady Albrecht logged two hits and two RBIs. Spencer Neugebauer, Chase Hetland, Bradley Dean, Briggs Havlik, Koby Larson and Deric Denning each had a hit. Larson and Denning each drove in runs. 

Dean took the loss after giving up seven hits, five earned runs, struck out five batters and walked four in his seven-inning start.

Dimock-Emery Raptors 14, Freeman Blacksox 4 (8 innings)

EMERY — Peyton Nash belted two of Dimock-Emery’s four home runs in a non-league amateur baseball win over Freeman on Sunday. 

Nash finished 3 of 5, drove in seven runs and belted a pair of three-run homers. Sam Arend and Tyson Kayser added homers for Dimock-Emery, which racked up 16 hits. Arend finished 3 of 5 and drove in three runs, including a solo homer in the sixth inning. Bryce Smart went 4 of 5 and drove in a run. Connor Solano and Steve Ernster both had two hits, while Phil Johnson added a hit and an RBI. Drew Kitchens also had an RBI. 

Solano allowed eight hits, four runs (three earned), struck out five batters and walked four in seven innings to earn the win. 

Freeman’s Micah Swensen, Lee Scherschligt and Bailey Sage each had two hits. Swensen drove in three runs, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Phil Madsen, Allen Scherschligt and Austin Schmidt each had a hit. Nate Brohman took the loss after allowing two hits, four earned runs, walked three batters and struck out one batter in his three-inning start. 


Winner/Colome Pheasants 8, Parkston Mudcats 5

WINNER — Winner/Colome racked up 13 hits en route to a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Parkston on Sunday. 

Austin Richey led the Pheasants with three hits and two RBIs. Dillon Lambley, Austin Calhoon, Oscar Pravacek and Zach Harter each had two hits. Richey drove in two runs. Drew DeMers and Brendan Kamerzell each had a hit. DeMers, Lambley, Calhoon, Pravacek, Kamerzell and Harter each drove in a run. 

Tarell Bauld earned the win after giving up seven hits, two earned runs, struck out six batters and walked two batters in his 8.2 relief innings.

Parkston’s Nate Doering finished with two hits. Dylan Mogck, Logan Heidinger, Landon Sudbeck, Dawson Semmler and Ryan McGinnis each had a hit. Sudbeck, Semmler and McGinnis each drove in runs. Dillon Stadlman allowed 12 hits, eight runs (six earned), walked five batters and struck out one in his 5.2-inning start. 


Colome Chaos 7, Plankinton Bankers 6

COLOME — Ben Connot crushed a two-run walk-off homer to propel Colome to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over the Plankinton Bankers on Sunday 

Ethan Vobr led Colome with three hits, while Jackson Kinzer, Jake Luse and Dalton Baker added two hits apiece. Baker drove in three runs. Sid Bice, Braden Gardner and Carter Brickman each had a hit. Kinzer and Gardner each drove in runs. Vobr earned the win after giving up 12 hits, six runs (five earned), struck out four batters and walked one in the complete-game performance. 

Plankinton’s Alex Loes had a team-high three hits and drove in a run. Cole Knippling and Austin Hauge had two hits apiece. Josh Engquist, Trevor Boyd, Trevor Salmonson, Chris Hill and Travis Gant each had a hit. Engquist, Boyd, Knippling, Salmonson and Hill each drove in runs. Engquist took the loss after giving up 11 hits, seven runs (five earned), struck out 10 batters and walked two in his 8.2-inning start. 


Dell Rapids Mudcats 2, Canova Gang 0

DELL RAPIDS — Kris Regas struck out seven batters in a three-hit shutout to lift Dell Rapids Mudcats to a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win over Canova on Sunday. 

For Canova, Kendall Gassman finished with two hits and Garrett Gassman added a hit. 


Clark Traders 15, Bryant Wild Hogs 6

BRYANT — Clark erupted for seven runs in the eighth inning to secure an amateur baseball win over Bryant on Sunday. 

Tyler Brinka led Clark with three hits and drove in four runs. Grayson Florey, Zach Winter and Matt Streff each had two hits. Brent Griffith, Jay Huber and Andrew Magedanz each had a hit. Streff finished with three RBIs, while Magedanz drove in two runs. Brinka earned the win after allowing 12 hits, six runs (five earned), struck out seven and walked one batter in a complete-game performance. 

Bryant’s Nathan Holida finished with three hits and an RBI. Cody Swenson, Matt Steffenson, John Roe and Haedon Uecker each had two hits. David Novak added a hit. Holida, Swenson, Steffenson and Roe each drove in runs. Swenson was tagged with the loss after allowing eight hits, eight runs (three earned), walked six and struck out three in his six-inning start. 


Miller/Wessington Outlaws 13, Northville Merchants 12

MILLER — Miller/Wessington outlasted Northville in a Northern Plains League amateur baseball slugfest on Sunday. The Outlaws racked up 13 hits, while the Merchants recorded 17 hits. 

Engles Perez led Miller/Wessington with two hits and three RBIs. Dustin Harvey, Rafael Clemente and Jay Winter each had two hits. Clemente and Winter each had two RBIs apiece. Ryan Soler, Juan Martinez, Kyle Johnson, Garrett Knox and James White each had hits. Knox earned the win after giving up five hits, one earned run, struck out five batters and zero walks in three relief innings. 

Carson Simes, Travis Paulsen and Max Waltman each had three hits. Simes recorded three RBIs. Greg Heyne, Andrew Lefforge and Ethan Beyers each had two hits. Jeremiah Maxwell drove in two runs, while Jordan Richardt added a hit. Lefforge gave up nine hits, nine runs (eight earned), four walks and struck out one batter in 4.1 relief innings to take the loss.

 

Plankinton Gold Sox 8, Wessington Springs Owls 4

PLANKINTON — The Plankinton Gold Sox recorded 12 hits en route to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Wessington Springs on Sunday. 

Cooper Carter had a team-high three hits and drove in two runs. Sean DeVries added two hits, drove in four runs and hammer a two-run homer. Andrew Becker and Jesse Grosdidier had two hits and an RBI apiece. Griffin Tobin, Logan DeRungs and Tom Harris each had hits. Ben Laufman gave up three hits, zero runs, walked six and struck out five in three relief innings to earn the win. 

Dalton Mogck had three hits for the Owls. Austin Olson added two hits, while Clayton Dornbusch, Drew Olinger, Parker DeJean and Isaac Kolousek each had hits. Joe Butterfield took the loss after allowing 12 hits, eight runs (four earned runs), walked five batters and struck out 10 in his eight-inning start. 


Kimball/White Lake Nationals 10, Chamberlain Mallards 1

WHITE LAKE — Kimball/White Lake collected 15 hits and picked up a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Chamberlain on Sunday. 

Eathen Gaulke and Seth Kirsch had a team-high three hits, while Kirsch drove in two runs. Gaulke knocked in a run. Dylanger Pierson finished with two hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning. Trent Wookey and Zak Wallner each added two hits. Brian Zeman, Wes Kroupa and Caden Lenz each had hits. 

Lenz struck out seven batters, allowed six hits, one earned run and struck out two batters in his seven-inning start. 

Chamberlain’s Kyle Forester and Sandler Wiekamp each had two hits. Adam Schroeder, Dakota Munger and Cole Nachtigal each had a hit. Evan Steiner took the loss after allowing 12 hits, eight earned runs, walking zero batters and striking out five in his five-inning start.
