July 19 Legion Baseball Roundup - Garretson rallies past Flandreau in region tourney action

Garretson Post 23 5, Flandreau Post 70 3

Garretson plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a postseason Legion baseball win over Flandreau on Tuesday. 

Garretson’s Dylan Kindt recorded three hits and two RBI. Jake Schroeder added two hits, while Tayson Swatek, Colby Buseman, Nate Skillman and Ryan Flanagan each had hits. Kindt struck out six batters, allowed five hits, two earned runs and walked three batters in his 6.2-inning win. 

Flandreau’s Maddox Biever finished with two hits and an RBI. Ethan Hoffman, Kolby Peters and Tash Lunday each had hits. Peters took the loss after allowing nine hits, five runs, zero walks and struck out four batters in his six-inning start. 


Groton Post 39 27, Hamlin Post 37/Hayti Post 217 2 (5 innings)

Groton Post 39 erupted for 18 hits and 27 runs in postseason Legion baseball action on Tuesday. 

Pierce Kettering, Colby Dunker and Dillon Abeln had three hits apiece. Jackson Cogley, Ryan Groeblinghoff and Andrew Marzahn had two hits apiece. Abeln drove in five runs, while Groeblinghoff and Marzahn knocked in four runs each. Pettering and Cogley each drove in three runs apiece, while Cole Simon smacked a three-run homer. Kettering allowed zero hits, zero runs, one walk and struck out three batters in his 2.2-inning start. 

For Hamlin/Hayti, Watson Grantham finished with one hit. 


Platte-Geddes WhiteCaps 14, Parkston Post 194 7

Joey Foxley drove in three runs to pace Platte-Geddes to postseason Legion baseball win over Parkston on Tuesday. 

Foxley finished 3 of 4 for Platte-Geddes, which finished with nine hits. Aiden Bultje recorded two hits and drove in a run. Grayson Hanson finished with two RBI. Caden Oberbroekling earned the win after five strikeouts, allowing two hits, zero runs and two walks in 2.1 innings of relief. 

Parkston’s Ty Neugebauer finished with three hits. Jay Storm and Luke Borman had two hits and two RBI apiece. Adam Doering took the loss for Parkston. He allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) in 0.1 relief innings. 


Stanley County Post 20 12, Mobridge Post 4 4

Stanley County Post 20 picked up a postseason Legion baseball win over Mobridge Post 4 on Tuesday. 

Josh Switzer finished with four hits and drove in a run. Paxton Deal added three hits and an RBI, while Jacob Lieferman and Cash Richardson had two hits apiece. Lieferman drove in four runs. Daysen Titze struck out 12 batters, allowed one earned run and walked one batter in six innings. 

Mobridge’s Taylon Carmody logged three hits, while Gavin Farlee, Shane Henderson and Simon Fried each had hits. Henderson took the loss after allowing two hits, four earned runs, five walks and struck out one batter in his one-inning start. 


Gregory County 14, Faulkton/Highmore 13 

Brogan Glover’s walk-off sacrifice fly lifted Gregory County to a postseason Legion baseball win over Faulkton/Highmore on Tuesday.

Bryce Frank, Gunnar Stephens, Ben Witt and Kade Braun each had two hits. Witt and Braun drove in three runs apiece. Frank added two RBI. Witt allowed three hits, three earned runs, zero walks and struck out one batter in his 1.1-inning start.

Faulkton/Highmore’s Cade Schick logged four hits and two RBI. Simon Bowar, Parker Geditz and Bennett Cassens had two hits apiece. Layne Cotton hammered a two-run homer. Cotton allowed seven hits, seven earned runs, walked five batters and struck out four batters in his 4.2-inning start. 


Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney 11, Tabor Post 183 8

Trailing 8-7, Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney scored the final four runs to secure a postseason Legion baseball win over Tabor on Tuesday. 

Taite Klumb belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning, while Daniel Laufman and Isaiah Olson drove in insurance runs in the sixth inning. Laufman drove in three runs, while Thomas Stange added two hits and an RBI. Brendan Wentland earned the win after allowing three hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out three batters in 2.2 innings of relief.  

Tabor’s Riley Rothschadl had two hits and two RBI, including a solo homer. Trent Herrboldt added three hits and drove in two runs. Carter Uecker finished with two hits. Herrboldt gave up two hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out zero batters in 1.1 innings of relief. 


Belle Fourche Post 32 9, Stanley County Post 20 3

Belle Fourche picked up a postseason Legion baseball win over Stanley County on Tuesday. 

Gabe Heck and Sean Wahlfeldt had three hits apiece. Dalton Davis added two hits and two RBI. Nolan Wahlfeldt struck out seven batters, allowed three hits, one earned run and walked one batter in his three-inning start. 

Stanley County’s Samuel Hand and Tate Nesladek had two hits apiece. Paxton Deal and Cash Richardson each had a hit. Hand struck out four batters, gave up eight hits, zero earned runs and walked two batters in his 4.2-inning start. 


Clark/Willow Lake Senators 12, Groton Post 39 6

Clark/Willow Lake plated seven runs in the final two innings to secure a postseason Legion baseball win over Groton on Tuesday. 

Clark/Willow Lake’s Mitchell Larson belted two home runs and drove in four runs. Collin Gaikowski and Lucas Kannegieter produced two hits apiece. Kannegieter and Jack Bratland drove in two runs apiece. Hudson Fuller struck out 11 batters, allowed nine hits, four earned runs and walked five batters in his five-inning start. Trey Huber threw two scoreless relief innings and struck out two batters to earn the win. 

Groton’s Pierce Kettering recorded three hits, while Ryan Groeblinghoff added two hits and two RBI. Jackson Cogley struck out six batters, allowed four hits, five earned runs and walked five batters in his 5.1-inning start. Cole Simon took the loss after allowing six hits, seven runs (three earned) and walked one batter in 1.2 innings of relief. 


Salem Post 140 6, Colton Post 206 1 

Salem racked up 14 hits en route to a postseason Legion baseball win on Tuesday. 

Bobby Koepsell and Gavin Gordon logged three hits apiece, while Koepsell drove in a run. Braeden Keekhove and Carter Randall each added two hits. Raygen Randall earned the win after striking out eight batters, scattering four hits and allowing one earned run in his five-inning start. 

Colton’s Cole Fokken finished with two hits. Kade Egger took the loss after allowing 12 hits, six earned runs, zero walks and struck out six batters in his six-inning start.
