July 20 Legion Baseball Roundup - Wagner rallies past Alexandria in Region 4B action

Wagner Post 11 5, Alexandria Post 41 4

TABOR — Wagner Post 11 scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a Region 4B American Legion baseball win on Thursday. 

Trailing 4-2 entering the seventh, Wagner’s three-run seventh was highlighted by a Corbin Carda two-run double for a 5-4 advantage. 

Carda finished 2 of 5, while J. Cournoyer had two hits. Carter Cournoyer and Ted Slaba each had hits. Slaba, Brady Cournoyer and Javian Pesicka drove in runs. Matt Link earned the win after nine strikeouts, while allowing four earned runs on five hits and walked eight batters in a complete-game performance.

For Alexandria, Jayce Slaba had two hits and drove in one run. Kade Waldera, Carter Popp and Brayden Bahmuller each had hits. Waldera drove in a run. Slaba took the loss after allowing two hits, two earned runs, six walks and struck out two batters in 3.2 relief innings. 


Tabor Post 183 5, Parkston Post 194 0

TABOR — Riley Rothschadl struck out 14 batters as Tabor Post 194 blanked Parkston in Region 4B American Legion baseball action on Thursday. 

Rothschadl walked four batters and allowed no hits on 106 pitches through 6.2 innings. 

Easton Mudder led Tabor with two hits and two RBI. Landon Bares and Jackson Caba drove in runs. 

For Parkston, Luke Borman took the loss after allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out two batters in his 2.1-inning start.


Platte-Geddes WhiteCaps 4, Winner/Colome Post 169 2

WINNER — Platte-Geddes punched its ticket to the Class B American Legion state tournament with a win over Winner/Colome on Thursday. 

Dawson Hoffman earned the win after nine strikeouts and allowed one earned run on seven hits, while issuing no walks. 

Dakota Munger drove in two runs, while Carter Lenz and Joey Foxley knocked in runs. 

For Winner/Colome, Ethan Bartels had three hits and knocked in a run. Karson Keiser added two hits. Zach Olson took the loss after allowing six hits, four earned runs, zero walks and two strikeouts in his 5.2-inning start. 


Winner/Colome Post 169 3, Platte-Geddes WhiteCaps 0

WINNER — Justin Hausmann threw a two-hit shutout as Winner/Colome edged Platte-Geddes in a Region 7B American Legion elimination game on Thursday. 

Hausmann allowed two hits and struck out one batter on 49 pitches. 

Platte-Geddes’ Dakota Munger struck out 13 batters, allowed eight hits, two earned runs and walked three batters on 108 pitches.

The two combined for five innings of scoreless baseball, until Winner/Colome broke the game open in the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Winner/Colome’s Aiden Barfuss’ RBI double drove in Pierce Nelson for the game’s first run. 

In the top of the seventh, Winner/Colome added two more insurance runs for the final margin. 

Barfuss, Zach Olson and Landon Calhoon finished with two hits apiece for Winner/Colome. Nelson and Rocky Wiedman each had hits. 

For Platte-Geddes, Joey Foxley and Jaxon Christensen each had hits. 


Dell Rapids Post 65 11, Volga Post 114 0 (5 innings)

VOLGA — Dell Rapids Post 65 captured its region championship on Thursday. 

Treyse Eastman earned the win after allowing one hit, zero runs, zero walks and struck out five batters in his 4.2-inning start. Eastman also had two hits and drove in four runs at the plate. 

C.J. Smith drove in two runs, while Aiden Boechler, Mason Stubbe and Sutton Williams drove in runs. 

For Volga, Levi Loban had one hit. Kyler Bezdichek took the loss after allowing one hit, one earned run, two walks and struck out one batter through the first inning. 


Clark/Willow Lake 2, Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 1

NORTHVILLE — Clark/Willow Lake used a two-run fifth inning to secure an American Legion region baseball win on Thursday. 

Trey Huber finished with two hits, while Lucas Kannegieter had one hit and drove in a run. Huber earned the win after five strikeouts, allowing five hits, zero earned runs and walked two batters in his 6.2-inning start. 

For Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern, Quinton Fischbach had two hits. Devon Fischbach took the loss after allowing four hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out six batters in his five-inning start.  


Redfield Post 92 14, Clark/Willow Lake 0 (5 innings)

NORTHVILLE — Redfield Post 92 plated 11 runs in the first inning en route to an American Legion region baseball win on Thursday. 

Nolan Gall had two hits and drove in three runs. Kevin Weller and Peyton Osborn had two hits and two RBI apiece. Owen Osborn drove in two runs. Seth Siebrecht earned the win after three strikeouts, one hit allowed and zero runs allowed in his two-inning start. 

For Clark/Willow Lake, Josh Kannegieter went 2 of 3 at the plate. Emmerson Larson took the loss after allowing eight hits, two earned runs, seven walks and struck out one batter in his two-inning start.
