July 22 Legion Baseball Roundup – Tyler Sanderson’s no-hitter lifts Alexandria to Region 5B opening round win over Colton

Alexandria 4, Colton 0

SALEM — Tyler Sanderson threw a no-hitter as Alexandria blanked Colton in Region 5B action Tuesday.

Sanderson gave up just three walks in seven no-hit innings, striking out 11 batters to take the win on the mound. Jim Choc tallied an RBI on a hit and two walks, Nate Wilber collected an RBI single, Carter Popp had two hits and a walk, while AJ Wilber tallied an RBI in the win.

For Colton, Carter Sorenson allowed three runs on three hits and five walks in 3.2 innings, striking out four.


Parkston 12, Salem 2 (6 innings)

SALEM — James Deckert tallied three extra base-hits as Parkston topped Salem in Region 5B action Tuesday.

Deckert tallied two doubles and a triple, driving in two runs in the win. Kaden Holzbauer had an RBI on one hit, Jaxx Kurtenbach totaled two RBIs on a hit and a walk, Kolter Kramer drove in a run on two hits, Carter Sommer and Taite Klumb each had an RBI on a walk while Kash Neugebauer tallied two hits and a walk in the win. Grady Bowar earned the win on the mound in three shutout innings, striking out three.

For Salem, Shea Klinkhammer tallied one hit, Zane McCormick had a double while Conner Heiberger and Nolan Mentele each drove in a run in the loss.


Dell Rapids 13, Volga 4

DELL RAPIDS — A nine-run inning powered Dell Rapids past Volga in Region 2B action Tuesday.

Cole Ruesink led the offense batting 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs, Tad Tjaden added two RBIs on a hit and two walks, Drake Eastman had two hits and an RBI, Talan Millage recorded a two-RBI single, Lincoln Fersdahl tallied an RBI single, while Jackson Peppel had two hits in the win. Millage earned the victory on the mound in 5. 2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and a walk, striking out two.

For Volga, Bret Milton allowed 10 runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings. Isaac Skovlund tallied two RBIs on two hits, Kam Hauck had two hits while Braden Danzeisen drove in a run in the loss.


Madison 16, Castlewood 2 (6 innings)

DELL RAPIDS — Madison pounded out 14 hits as Madison defeated Castlewood in Region 2B action Tuesday.

JD Prorok had four RBIs on two hits, including a homer, Jordan Pedersen and Quincy Kurtz each drove in two runs on two hits, Carson Wolf batted 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Gavin Schneider tallied three hits and an RBI in the win. Braylon Oftedal took the win on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in three innings, striking out eight.

For Castlewood, Kaden Nedved allowed 11 runs on 12 hits and two walks in five innings, striking out three. Jarin Eidson tallied two hits, a double and an RBI, while Nedved had two hits in the loss.


Chamberlain 10, Hot Springs 5

GREGORY — Chamberlain picked up its first win of the season to open up Region 7B tournament action Tuesday.

Kruse Brennan and Brayden Oldenkamp each tallied two RBIs on one hit, Jeric Klages added an RBI on a hit and a walk, while Xavier Donovan, Cannon Speer and Branden Flowers each drew walks to drive in a run. Isaac Shepherd took the win on the mound in 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on three hits and six walks, striking out three.

For Hot Springs, Nikolas Cruz took the loss, allowing six unearned runs on a hit and five walks in an inning of work, striking out two. Cruz tallied a hit and a walk while Alexander Brave Heart drove in two on one hit in the loss.


Winner/Colome 9, Belle Fourche 4

GREGORY — Three big innings powered Winner/Colome to a Region 7B win over Belle Fourche in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Isaiah Olson tallied three hits and an RBI, Gavin Risse added two hits, a double, and two RBIs, Ryder Haligan added two hits, while Landon Calhoon, Quincy Phillips and Camdyn Anderson each tallied an RBI on one hit, including a solo homer from Anderson in the win. Dylan Brandis tossed six innings for W/C, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk, striking out six.

For Belle Fourche, Caeyn Howard tossed 3.2 innings, surrendering six runs on eight hits and four walks. Trig Thomsen had three hits and two RBIs, Graham Vanderboom added two RBIs on a single while Nolan Wahlfelt tallied two hits in the loss.


Gregory 19, Chamberlain 4 (5 innings)

CHAMBERLAIN — Gregory scored 16 runs in the first two innings to earn a run rule victory over Chamberlain in Region 7B action Tuesday.

Jad Leber and Jackson Bolander each tallied two RBIs on two hits, Cruz Klundt and Lincoln Juracek each drove in a pair of runs, Noah Bearshield had two RBIs on one hit, Colt Keiser added an RBI single while Jayder Schonebaum recorded two hits, a double, a walk and an RBI in the win. Six different pitchers combined for the win on the mound for Gregory.

For Chamberlain, Eli Donovan allowed nine runs on seven hits and a walk in two innings, striking out two. Conway Collins and London Hauska each tallied a hit in the loss.


Tabor 10, Platte-Geddes 2

PLATTE — Two five-run frames led Tabor to a dominant win over Platte-Geddes in Region 4B action Tuesday.

Cooper Mudder tallied three RBIs on a double and a walk, Major Aarstad had two RBIs on one hit, Madden Merkwan collected an RBI on two hits and a walk, Calvin Caba had two RBIs on two hits while Isaiah Crownover collected two hits in the win. Crownover earned the win on the mound in 3.2 innings of work, allowing one run on five hits.

For PG, Kenyon Kuiper allowed four runs on five hits and a walk in 3.2 innings, striking out four. Parker Bailey, Maddux VanZee and Hayden Sprik each tallied two hits in the loss.


Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota 6, Wagner 1

PLATTE — A pitching trio combined to shutout Wagner as Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota advanced in Region 4B tournament action.

Bryce Sattler tossed four shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out three. Erick Buechler and Tayden Kerrigan threw the remaining three innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk, combining for five strikeouts. Easton Miller had two hits for the 79ers while Riley Tschetter tallied a double, two RBIs and two walks in the win. Rocky Ammann had an RBI single in the win as well.

For Wagner, Frank Soukup took the loss allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in 5.1 innings, striking out eight. Soukup also had two hits in the loss.


Elk Point/Jefferson 9, Lennox 2

VERMILLION — Brody Van Roekel nearly went the distance on the mound as Elk Point/Jefferson put away Lennox in Region 3B action Tuesday.

Van Roekel allowed two runs on five hits and six walks in 6.2 innings, striking out four in the win. Ashton Fairbanks tallied two RBIs on two hits, one triple, and a walk, Ethan Bovill had two hits, a double, a walk and an RBI, while Grayson Girard, Luke Swatek, Van Roekel and Levi Hanson each drove in a run on one hit in the win.

For Lennox, Emery Lefers took the loss, surrendering three runs on five hits in 1.2 innings, striking out three. Jaxon Bittner had two hits and a walk while Talen Eich drove in a run on one hit in the loss.


Dakota Valley 5, Vermillion 4

VERMILLION — Jake Pick’s RBI single powered Dakota Valley to a walk-off win over Vermillion in Region 3B action Tuesday.

Pick recorded two hits and an RBI in the win, Vincent Hoffman had a two RBI single, Jack Jones tallied an RBI on a hit and a walk, while Sterling Schauff had two hits in the win. Grady Ramos earned the win on the mound in 0.2 innings of relief, while Schauff started the game allowing one run on two hits and two walks in 2.1 innings, striking out three.

For Vermillion, Jack Moskowitz allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in his save opportunity. Mikey Roob, Moskowitz, and Matthew Roob each tallied an RBI on one hit while Corbin Heckens tallied two hits and an RBI in the loss.


Big Stone City 6, Webster 3

SISSETON — Big Stone City drew 11 walks in its Region 1B victory over Webster Tuesday.

Isaac Brown tallied two RBIs on a hit and three walks, Kirby Olson and Connor Danielson each drove in a run on one hit, Cadyn Vanderwal drew three walks, adding an RBI, while Connor Ohm collected two walks and an RBI in the win. Vanderwal earned the win on the mound in 2.2 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out six.

For Webster, Sheldon Schmieg allowed one unearned run on one hit in two innings to take the loss. Brent Bearman tallied two hits while Schmieg drove in a run on one hit in the loss.


Groton 8, Sisseton 0

SISSETON — Nick Morris tossed seven shutout innings as Groton defeated Sisseton in Region 1B action Tuesday.

Morris allowed three hits and two walks in seven shutout innings, striking out five in the win. Alex Abeln had two RBIs on two hits and a walk, Korbin Kucker and Brevin Fliehs each had two hits and an RBI, while Carter Simon, Gavin Englund and Braxton Imrie each drove in a run on one hit in the win.

For Sisseton, LJ Crooks allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in five innings, striking out two. Carter Stickland tallied two hits in the loss for Sisseton.


Lake Norden/Badger 6, Redfield 1

CLARK — Turner Stevenson drove in four runs as Lake Norden/Badger defeated Redfield in Region 6B action Tuesday.

Stevenson tallied two hits, a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Caleb Drenth and Dawson Noem each drove in a run on one hit, including a double from Noem, while Ted Smith and Boden Stevenson each tallied a hit in the win. Riggs Prouty earned the victory on the mound in a complete game performance, allowing one run on eight hits and three walks, striking out four.

For Redfield, Jet Kleinsasser allowed six runs on six hits and two walks in six innings, striking out seven. Kevin Weller tallied two hits, Hunter Binger had three hits while Micah Zastrow tallied an RBI walk in the loss.


Clark/Willow Lake 4, Warner/Ipswich/Northville 3

CLARK — Clark/Willow Lake scored two in the sixth to stun Warner/Ipswich/Northville in Region 6B action Tuesday.

Jakob Steen led the offense with three hits, a double and two RBIs, Cooper Pommer and Will Hovde each tallied an RBI on two hits, while Watson Grantham had two hits and a walk in the win. Pommer earned the victory on the mound allowing just three walks in two innings.

For WIN, Logan Fischbach allowed four runs on 11 hits and two walks in six innings, striking out five batters. Devon Fischbach drove in a run on one hit while Jacob Schmitt recorded a triple in the loss.
