July 23 Legion Baseball Playoff Roundup - Mitchell completes sweep of Aberdeen to earn trip to Class A state
Mitchell’s Brock Sparks slides past Aberdeen’s Jaiden Smith during Post 18’s 4-2 win in Game 1 of the Class A playoffs on Friday in Mitchell. Post 18 completed the sweep on Saturday with a 10-2 win to earn a trip to next week’s Class A State Tournament in Rapid City.

Mitchell 10, Aberdeen 2 

Mitchell opened the floodgates in the second inning with five runs to take a 7-0 lead en route to a win over Aberdeen — taking the playoff series 2-0 and clinching a spot in the Class A state tournament. 

Joe VanOverschelde, Jonah Schmidt, Brock Sparks led Mitchell at the plate. 

Landon Waddell picked up the win for Mitchell, giving up two runs on one hit. She walked eight and struck out three on 92 pitches. 


Sioux Falls Post 15 East 5, Watertown Post 17 0 


Tate Schafer pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Sioux Falls Post 15 past Watertown on Saturday. 

Post 15 East was led at the plate by Ethan Bruns, Andrew Glovich and Myles Rees. 

Sioux Falls took a 2-0 lead after the first inning and added three runs in the top of the second inning. 


Brandon Valley 7, Spearfish 0 

Brandon Valley jumped out to a 4-0 after the second inning and added a run in the third and two more in the fourth for a win on Saturday. 

Nate Meyers, Dawson Skorczewski and Logan Kelling led Brandon Valley at the plate. 

Nick Hokenstad picked up the win, pitching 5â…” innings giving up four hits and walked one while pitching 75 pitches. 


Tabor 14, Platte-Geddes 0, 6 innings  

Tabor jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and added another five runs in the third for an easy win on Saturday. 

Nolan Dvorak, Trent Herrboldt, Dustin Honomichl, Landon Bares all had hits to lead Tabor at the plate. 

Logan Winckler picked up the win, pitching five innings, giving up four runs while striking out five 63. 


Harrisburg 7, Yankton 6 

Harrisburg edged Yankton on Saturday. 

Jack Sutton went 3-for-3 to lead Harrisburg while Braxton Kusler picked up the win for the Tigers, pitching six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. He struck out six and walked two.
