Sioux Falls East Post 15 14, Brookings Post 74 4 (6 innings)

YANKTON — Sioux Falls East Post 15 used an eight-run fifth inning to help secure a Class A American Legion state tournament win on Wednesday. 

Brayden Olson led Sioux Falls Post 15 with three hits and two RBI. Sawyer Tolk and Lincoln Vasgaard added two hits and drove in three runs apiece. Myles Rees drove in three runs. Jack Smith had two hits. Tate Schafer started the first 4.1 innings, finishing with five strikeouts, three earned runs allowed on six hits and walked five batters.

For Brookings, Nathan Lease had three of the team’s six hits. Nolan Miles, Austin Clark and Tate Helmboldt each drove in runs. Breck Hirrschoff started the first 3.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and struck out one batter. 

Sioux Falls Post 15 plays Harrisburg Gold at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. 

Brookings plays Renner at noon Thursday. 


Harrisburg Gold 16, Yankton Post 12 4 (5 innings) 

YANKTON — Harrisburg Gold piled up nine runs in the fifth inning to put away Yankton Post 12 in Class A American Legion state tournament action on Wednesday. 

Palmer Boyd led Harrisburg with four hits. Teigan Munce, Maddux Scherer, Noah Boschee, Carter Hoffman and Coen Cook had two hits apiece. Cook drove in three runs and hammered a home run. Hoffman and Scherer also knocked in three runs apiece. Maddox Plack earned the win after allowing three earned runs on seven hits and struck out two batters in his five-inning start.

For Yankton, Mac Ryken drove in two runs and Matthew Sheldon drove in a run. Isaiah Schelhaas took the loss after allowing five hits, five earned runs, one walk and struck out one batter in his one-inning start. 

Harrisburg Gold plays Sioux Falls Post 15 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Yankton plays Rapid City Post at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. 


Rapid City Post 22 14, Harrisburg Maroon 4 (6 innings)

YANKTON — Rapid City Post 22 used two big innings to eliminate Harrisburg Maroon in the Class A American Legion state tournament on Wednesday. 

Ridge Inhofer led Post 22 with two hits and three RBI. Harrison Good had two hits and an RBI. Wyatt Reeder drove in two runs. Eli Kelley earned the win after four scoreless relief innings, finishing with three strikeouts, three walks and one hit allowed. 

For Harrisburg Maroon, Peyton Blackwelder and Sam Sutton both drove in two runs apiece. Kason Syverson took the loss after allowing two hits, five earned runs, six walks and struck out one batter in his 2.1-inning start. 

Rapid City Post 22 plays Yankton at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. 


Renner Post 307 8, Aberdeen Smittys 2

YANKTON — Renner Post 307 pulled away from the Aberdeen Smittys for a Class A American Legion state tournament win on Wednesday. 

Renner’s Zach Dunham led the way with three hits and two RBI. Trey Heckenliable added two hits and three RBI, while Leo Hueners posted two hits and two RBI. Jake Wheeler earned the win after allowing three hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out three batters in his four-inning start.

For Aberdeen, Phillip Zens had two hits and smacked a solo home run. Ethan Kjenstad drove in the other run. Jaiden Smith took the loss after allowing four earned runs on five hits and struck out three batters in his three-inning start. 

Renner plays Brookings at noon Thursday.
