July 28 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Alexandria captures District 5B title with win over Winner/Colome

Alexandria 5, Winner/Colome 3 

PARKSTON — Alexandria scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to grab a District 5B tournament win over Winner/Colome on Friday. 

Reggie Salba broke the 3-3 tie when he scored on a wild pitch. The Angels would add another run in the inning on Jacob Giles' RBI single to give Alexandria a 5-3 lead. 

Jordan Gau led the Angels at the plate with a double while Ethan Davis picked up the win — pitching eight innings, giving up three runs on 10 hits while striking out six. 

Chandler Bakely led Winner at the plate with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie it at 3-3. JJ Farner took the loss, pitching 6 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked six.  

Mount Vernon Mustangs 15, Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs 1 (7 innings) 

PARKSTON — Bradley Dean hit two home runs and drove in six runs as Mount Vernon punched the final ticket to Mitchell in  District 5B with a win. 

Dean also picked up the win, pitching seven innings, giving up a run on five hits. He struck out three and walked two. 

Chase Hetland and Briggs Havlik each doubled to lead the Mustangs at the plate.  

Aaron Groeneweg’s solo home run in the fifth inning provided Corsica/Stickney’s lone run as Groeneweg took the loss, pitching two innings while giving up six runs on three hits.  

Brookings Cubs 11, Baltic River Dawgs 1 

BROOKINGS — Henry Hammrich hit a home run to lead Brookings to a win over Baltic River on Friday. 

Brookings took a 6-1 lead after three innings and added four runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh. 

Noel Burgos had three hits and Lukas Adelman added to hits to lead the Cubs at the plate. Rhett Zelinsky picked up the win, pitching six innings while giving up a run and a hit while striking out nine and walking seven. 

Andrew Evenson took the loss after pitching 4 1/3 innings — giving up nine runs on seven hits. He struck out one and walked three.
