July 28 State Class B Legion Roundup - Dell Rapids squeaks by Platte-Geddes in state Class B opener

Dell Rapids 2, Platte-Geddes 1 

REDFIELD — Dylan Kindt scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning to give Dell Rapids an opening round win over Platte-Geddes Friday at the state Class B American Legion baseball tournament. 

Klindt got the start for Post 65, pitching five inning and allowing a run on four hits. He struck out 10 and walked one while pitching 56 pitches. Brayden Pankonen picked up the win after coming in for relief of Klindt. He pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits while striking two and throwing 18 pitches. 

A Boechler tied it a 1-1 in the top of the fourth with an RBI single. 

Dakota Munger led the White Caps with three hits including a double in the fifth inning. Caden Oberbroekling picked up the loss, pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits. He struck out 10 and walked three on 107 pitches. 

Clark/Willow Lake 5, Castlewood/Clear Lake 4 

REDFIELD — Clark/Willow Lake held off a late rally from Castlewood Clear Lake to advance Friday afternoon in the state Class B legion tournament. 

Clark jumped out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half before Castlewood scored two runs to cut the lead 5-2. Post 250 would add a run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings and had the tying run in scoring position when the final out was made. 

The Senators were led at the plate by Mitchell Larson and Jakob Steen who both doubled while Trey Huber picked up the win. Huber pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits. He struck out seen and walked four on 107 pitches. Lucas Kannegieter picked up the final two outs of the game including a strike out while only pitching seven pitches. 

Lane Tvedt led Castlewood at the plate with a RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kegan Tvedt picked up the loss, pitching five innings, giving up four runs on four hits. He struck out three and walked none while pitching 79 pitches.  

Salem/Montrose/Canova 15, Tabor 2 

REDFIELD — Salem took a 7-1 lead after four innings and rolled to a state Class B American Legion tournament opening round win on Friday. 

Salem scored a run each in the first two innings and added two in the third, three in the fourth and four runs in the sixth and seventh innings. 

Tabor’s lone runs came in the first and sixth innings. 

Griffin Clubb led Salem at the plate with a three-run home in the top of the seventh while  

Jackson Grady and Jack Neises doubled. 

Neises picked up the win, pitching five innings, giving up one run on five hits. He struck out five and walked two on 80 pitches. 

Brady Bierema Riley Rothschadl each doubled to lead Tabor at the plate. Landon Smith took the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits on 43 pitches.  

Redfield 14, Elk Point-Jefferson 4 (5 innings)

REDFIELD — Peyton Osborn’s grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning helped power Redfield to an opening round win over Elk Point-Jefferson on Friday in the state Class B American Legion Tournament. 

Osborn’s home run gave Redfield a 6-3 lead as the host team added eight runs in the fourth inning. 

Osborn picked up the win — pitching four innings, giving up three runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked two while throwing 75 pitches. 

Hunter Geary tripled while Tayson Swatek doubled to lead Elk Point-Jefferson at the plate. Geary took the loss after going 1 2/3 innings. He gave up six runs on five hits while striking out four and walking three on 56 pitches.
