July 29 State A Legion Baseball Roundup - Rapid City Post 320 stuns top-seeded Post 22 in opening round

Rapid City Post 320 4, Rapid City Post 22 1

WATERTOWN — Laadon Fatz powered Rapid City Post 320 to an upset win over top-seeded Post 22 to open the 2025 Class A state Legion tournament Tuesday.

Faatz allowed just one run on six hits and two walks across seven innings of work, striking out five batters in just 95 pitches. At the plate, Tegan Sayles had two hits and an RBI, Jhett Peterson tallied an RBI single while Max Speed hit a solo home run in the win.

For RC Post 22, Jadon Moreno allowed three runs on three hits, two walks and three hit batters in 2.1 innings, striking out three in the loss. Kain McLeod had three hits in the loss, Dawson Inhofer recorded two hits while Carter Johnson added a double in the loss for the Hardhats.


Harrisburg Gold 8, Yankton 0

WATERTOWN — Kason Syverson and Rylan Boe combined to shutout Yankton in the second game of the State A Legion tournament Tuesday.

Syverson allowed just four hits and two walks in 3.1 innings, striking out four batters while Boe took the win on the mound in 3.2 innings, allowing one hit while striking out two. Noah Boschee hit a grand slam, Taten Munce had two doubles, Darren Safranksi collected three hits and two RBIs, while Griffen Sclapkohl netted an RBI on a double and a walk in the win.

For Yankton, Mark Kathol allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in three innings, striking out two to take the loss. Matthew Sheldon, Easton Feser, Gavin Johnson, Owen Wishon and Beck Ryken each collected a hit in the loss.


Renner Royals 6, Brandon Valley 2

WATERTOWN — Jackson Bjorkman’s complete game on the mound powered the defending state champion Renner Royals over Brandon Valley in the opening round of the State A tournament.

Bjorkman allowed just two runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings of work, striking out seven in the win. Rylan Arbogast, Brody Jacobson and Brogan Moffit each tallied two hits and an RBI, Jack Stukel had an RBI on a walk, Jack Canfield and Sam Donohoe each tallied an RBI on a hit, including two walks from Donohoe. Patrick Barnett and Owen Lechtenberg combined for five walks in the win as well.

For BV, Ryland Carroll allowed six runs on six hits and seven walks in four innings, striking out five in the loss. Bryton Stroh had an RBI on a hit and a walk while Jack Blomgren drove in a run in the win as well.


Watertown 5, Pierre 2

WATERTOWN — Kaden Rylance and Jackson McClemans combined for nine strikeouts as Watertown outlasted Pierre in the opening round of the Class A tournament on Tuesday. 

Rylance struck out six batters, allowed one earned run, four walks and allowed one hit in four innings. McClemans added three strikeouts, allowed zero hits, zero runs and walked one batter in 2.1 innings. 

Rylance drove in two runs, while Nathan Briggs added an RBI. Hayden Ries and Mitch Olson both had hits. 

For Pierre, Dawson Getz had the team’s lone hit and drove in the lone run. Ridge Leimbach struck out five batters, allowed two hits, two earned runs and walked eight batters in 4.2 innings.
