July 30 Class B Legion Roundup - Dell Rapids holds off Redfield in battle of unbeatens

Dell Rapids 8, Redfield 5 

REDFIELD — Dell Rapids scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning and held off a late rally from Redfield to advance Sunday in the Class B state legion tournament. 

Brayden Pankonen led Dell Rapids at the plate with two hits and two runs scored. 

Tad Tjaden picked up the win — pitching 5 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on three hits. He struck out seven and walked three while throwing 105 pitches. Pankonen pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing a hit and striking out two on 21 pitches. 

Peyton Osborn led Redfield at the plate with two hits including a double. Nolan Gall took the loss — pitching 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked four on 107 pitches. Eli Morrissette pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits while striking out one and walking one on 38 pitches. 

Elk Point-Jefferson 5, Salem-Montrose-Canova 2 

REDFIELD — Elk Point-Jefferson jumped to a 3-1 lead after three innings and cruised to a win over Salem-Montrose-Canova in an elimination game Sunday at the Class B state legion tournament. 

Keaton Gale led Elk Point with three hits whole Tayson Swatek picked up the win. Swatek pitched six innings, giving up three runs on five hits. He struck out one and walked five on 83 pitches. 

Jack Neises and Weston Remmers led Salem at the plate with a extra base hits as SMC scored runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings. 

Braeden Kerkhove took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out one and walked four on 82 pitches. 

Tabor 13, Clark/Willow Lake 1 (5 innings)

REDFIELD — Tabor scored eight runs in the top of the second and rolled to a win over Clark/Willow Lake in an elimination game Sunday at the Class B state legion tournament. 

Landon Bares led Tabor at the plate with an RBI triple in the second inning. Landon Bares added a double. 

Landon Schmidt picked up the win, pitching four innings, giving up a hit while striking out seven on 70 pitches. 

Dawosn Lantgen took the loss — pitching 1 1/3 innings, giving up nine runs on six hits while walking two. 

Clark’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Trey Huber.
