No. 7 Brookings 5, No. 2 Rapid City Hardhats 2

BROOKINGS — Brookings collected 16 hits as it upset No. 2 seeded Rapid City in the opening round of the State A Legion tournament Tuesday.

Owen Schneider, Zach Struck, Nolan Miles, David Brink, Addison Ronning, Austin Clark, and Sam Johnson each had two hits in the win, with Brink driving in two runs while Schneider, Struck, and Ronning each driving in one run each.

Tate Helmboldt earned the victory on the mound, allowing two runs on nine hits in seven innings pitched, striking out three batters.

For Rapid City, Eli Kelley took the loss allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk in four innings pitched.

Aaron Roach tallied two hits, Harrison Good drove in a run on one hit, while six other batters tallied hits in the loss for Rapid City.

Brookings advances to face Renner in the second round on Wednesday at 7 p.m., while Rapid City moves to the loser’s bracket against Yankton at 1 p.m. Wednesday.


No. 5 Watertown 4, No. 4 Sioux Falls East 2

BROOKINGS — Kaden Rylance gave Watertown six strong innings on the mound as it defeated Sioux Falls East in the opening round of the State A Legion tournament Tuesday.

Rylance allowed just two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters, earning the victory on the mound.

Nathan Briggs batted 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, Markus Pitkin collected a hit and an RBI, Treyton Himmerich hit a sac-fly, scoring a run, while Hayden Ries, Marcus Rabine, and Dylon Rawdon each had hits in the win.

For Sioux Falls East, Caden Watson took the loss allowing three runs on three hits and four walks in 2.2 innings pitched.

Sawyer Mindt batted 4-for-4 while Dylan Rippentrop collected an RBI-single in the loss as well.

Watertown moves on to face Harrisburg Gold on Wednesday at 4 p.m., while Sioux Falls East moves to the loser’s bracket to face Brandon Valley on Wednesday at 10 a.m.


No. 3 Renner Royals 7, No. 6 Yankton 6 (10 innings)

BROOKINGS — Zachary Dunham’s walk-off single lifted Renner over Yankton in the opening round of the State A Legion tournament Tuesday.

Dunham drove in two runs on a hit and a sac-fly, Sullivan Schlimgen batted 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs, Brogan Moffit had an RBI-double, while Jacob Sanderson drove in a run on a hit in the win. Kyle Konechne tallied two hits, while Charlie Hueners, Hunter Den Boer, and Brody Jacobsen each had hits as well.

Hueners picked up the victory tossing 4.2 shutout innings of relief, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out six.

For Yankton, Frankie Inveld took the loss allowing one run on two hits and three walks, striking out six in 8.2 innings.

Lucas Kampshoff batted 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, S Gokie had two hits, a walk, and an RBI, Tate Beste, Matthew Sheldon, and Evan Serck each drove in a run on one hit, while Austin Gobel tallied two hits in the loss.

Renner advances to face Brookings Wednesday at 7 p.m., while Yankton drops to the loser’s bracket to play Rapid City Wednesday at 1 p.m.


No. 1 Harrisburg Gold 2, No. 8 Brandon Valley 0

BROOKINGS — Eli Kokenge tossed 6.1 shutout innings as Harrisburg Gold defeated Brandon Valley in the opening round of the State A Legion tournament Tuesday.

Kokenge allowed just four hits in 6.1 innings, striking out seven batters to earn the victory on the mound.

Jack Riley and Teigan Munce each drove in a run on one hit, Noah Boschee had two hits, while Max Carlson and Coen Cook each tallied a hit in the win, including a double by Carlson.

For Brandon Valley, Carter LaBrie took the loss allowing two runs on six hits in six innings.

Jackson Adams collected two hits while Brayden Knutson, Aiden Zerr, and Max Peters each had hits in the loss.

Harrisburg Gold now faces Watertown at 4 p.m. Wednesday, while Brandon Valley will move on to play Sioux Falls East at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Brookings.
