July 9 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Colome collects 15 hits in Pony Hills League win over Plankinton

Colome 19, Plankinton 4 (6 innings)

COLOME — Colome racked up 15 hits en route to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Plankinton on Sunday.

Colome’s Hunter Van Nieuwenhuyse had three hits and drove in a run. Ethan Vobr, Riley Orel, Aaron Vomacka and Carter Brickman had two hits apiece. Orel drove in four runs, while Vobr knocked in three runs. 

Joey Cole, Shea Connot, Dalton Baker, Carter Dye and Kevin Carter each had hits. Aaron Sundquist struck out 12 batters, allowed five hits, two earned runs and walked four to earn the win. 

For Plankinton, Riley Ferry had two hits and an RBI. Tom Stange, Hunter Pranger and Devin Mehlhaff each had a hit. Stange and Pranger drove in runs. Ryland DeVries took the loss after allowing 12 hits, four earned runs, five walks and struck out eight batters in his 4.2-inning start. 


Platte 11, Parkston Mudcats 10

PLATTE — Platte edged the Parkston Mudcats in Sunshine League amateur baseball action on Sunday. 

Jarod Severson logged four of Platte’s 17 hits. Michael Buitenbos and Preston Nedved had three hits and two RBI apiece. Hayden Kuiper, Ryan Allen and Jimmy DeWaard had two hits apiece. Myles Kott earned the win after four strikeouts, three hits allowed and zero earned runs allowed in two relief innings. 

For the Mudcats, Brady Nolz had two hits, a home run and drove in two runs. Ryan McGinnis had two hits and knocked in four runs. Riley Weber and Luke Bormann had two hits apiece. Braxton Wilhelm and Jeff Harris each had hits. Wilhelm took the loss after two strikeouts, one hit allowed, one walk and zero runs allowed in 0.2 relief innings. 


Alexandria 18, Corsica-Stickney 6 (7 innings)

CORSICA — Alexandria hammered four home runs en route to a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Corsica-Stickney on Sunday.

Cole Wenande powered the Angels with three hits, two home runs and six RBI. Michael Schoettmer and Jacob Giles also hit homers. Schoettmer had two hits and crushed a grand slam. Giles hit a two-run homer. 

Jordan Gau added three hits, two doubles and drove in a run. Peyton Smith had two hits, while Jerrod Zens, Reggie Slaba and Tucker Kingsbury each had hits for Alexandria, which had 14 hits. 

Gau earned the win after six strikeouts, six hits allowed, six earned runs allowed and issued five walks in his five-inning start.

For Corsica-Stickney, Luke Bamberg had two hits, hit a homer and drove in three runs. Nate Blom had two hits. Sean Pinkerton, Kris Menning, Blake Moke and Caleb Crist added hits. Pinkerton took the loss after allowing 10 hits, 11 earned runs, two walks and struck out one batter in his 3.1-inning start. 


Winner/Colome 18, Dimock-Emery 5 (7 innings)

EMERY — Winner/Colome crushed six home runs during a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Dimock-Emery on Sunday.

Reed Harter finished 4 of 4, hammered two homers and drove in six runs. Austin Richey, Dillon Lambley, Austin Calhoon and Derek Graesser all belted homers. Graesser finished 4 of 6 and knocked in four runs. Lambley went 3 of 4 and drove in two runs, while Calhoon also had three hits and drove in three runs. Drew DeMers, Chandley Bakley, Connor Hopkins, Trevor Salmonson and Zach Harter added hits for Winner/Colome, which logged 20 hits. Patrick Starr earned the win after four strikeouts, six hits allowed, five earned runs and seven walks in seven innings. 

For Dimock-Emery, Parker Bollinger finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Drew Kitchens, Jason Schmidt, Steve Ernster and Bryce Smart had hits. Josh Engquist took the loss after allowing 13 hits, 13 runs (11 earned), one walk and struck out three batters in his 4.1-inning start. 


Mount Vernon 9, Parkston Devil Rays 4

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon produced two runs apiece in the fourth-through-seventh innings en route to a Sunshine League amateur baseball win on Sunday. 

Bradley Dean finished 3 of 4 to pace the Mustangs at the plate. Spencer Neugebauer and Chase Hetland posted two hits and two RBI apiece. Hetland belted a home run. Koby Larson, Eric Denning, Luke Tiesler and Kade Bialas each had hits. Bialas picked up the win after four strikeouts, six hits allowed, one earned run and four walks in his 7.2-inning start.

For the Devil Rays, Jonah Schmidt finished 3 of 5 and drove in a run. Seth Muth, Brayden Jervik, Max Scott, Jake Helleloid, Logan Heidinger and T.J. Schmidt each had hits. Helleloid took the loss after allowing four hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out seven batters in four relief innings. 


Kimball/White Lake 10, Chamberlain 0 (7 innings)

KIMBALL — Mitchell Price struck out 16 batters and threw a three-hit shutout in Pony Hills League amateur baseball action on Sunday. Price issued just two walks on 118 pitches. 

Offensively, Jaxon Christensen had three hits and drove in three runs. Caden Lenz added three hits, while Eathan Gaulke had two hits. Zak Wallner, Dylanger Pierson, Brian Zeman, Blake Leiferman, Carter Lenz and Wes Kroupa had hits. 

For Chamberlain, Evan Stiener, Mike Schwartz and Kyle Forester had hits. Schwartz took the loss after allowing 11 hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out four batters in his 3.1-inning start. 


Dell Rapids Mudcats 7, Canova 2

CANOVA — The Dell Rapids Mudcats logged 14 hits and Dalton Lehnen fanned 15 batters en route to a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win over Canova on Sunday. 

Lehnen allowed six hits, one earned run and walked one batter on 127 pitches in the complete-game performance.

Kris Regas and Kole Zimmerman hammered home runs for the Mudcats. Regas finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Zimmerman had three hits and drove in three runs. Dalton Lehnen finished 3 of 5. Mark Abrahamson, Trevor Freudenthal and Grant Olson had two hits apiece. 

For Canova, Kendall Gassman had two hits and drove in a run. Riley Genzlinger took the loss after allowing 12 hits, three earned runs, one walk and struck out six batters in his six-inning start.


Milbank 5, Volga 4

Brady Krause struck out 13 batters as Milbank picked up an Eastern Dakota League amateur baseball win on Sunday. 

Krause allowed seven hits, four earned runs and four walks on 137 pitches through eight innings. Krause added two hits and drove in a run at the plate. 

Mitch Quade and Brady Femling had two hits apiece, while Quade logged three RBI. Kellen Hoeke and Taylor Boerger each had hits.  

For Volga, Connor Gross finished 2 of 3 and drove in a run. Dylen Milton hammered a solo home run in the fifth inning. Cole Gross took the loss after allowing one hit, one earned run, two walks and struck out two batters in 1.1 relief innings. 


Milbank 9, Volga 6  

Milbank used a five-run fourth inning to help secure an Eastern Dakota League amateur baseball win on Sunday. 

Merik Junker finished with three hits and drove in two runs. Kellen Hoeke and Mike Karges logged two hits apiece, while Karges had three hits. Kaden Krause, Dom Boerger and Taylor Boerger each had hits. Taylor Boerger struck out seven batters, allowed seven hits, four earned runs and walked one batter in seven innings to earn the win.

For Volga, Carson Christopherson and Bayley Colemer both hammered home runs. Dylan Vosburg had two hits. Damian Danzeisen took the loss after allowing seven hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out two batters in his 3.1-inning start.
