June 12 Amateur Baseball Roundup - South Central tops Chamberlain in Pony Hills League contest

South Central Storm 9, Chamberlain Mallards 4 

GREGORY — Paul Taggart struck out nine batters as South Central defeated Chamberlain in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball contest on Sunday. 

Taggart allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and walked one through his five-inning start.

Offensively, Jaden Frank posted four hits and Hunter Van Niewenhuyse drove in four runs. Christian Schweigert notched two hits and two RBI. 

For Chamberlain, Dakota Munger recorded four hits and smacked a solo home run. Aaron Schroeder took the loss after allowing 12 hits, eight earned runs, walking three batters and striking out six in his six-inning start.

Platte Killer Tomatoes 7, Parkston Mudcats 2

PLATTE — Platte used a five-run second inning to help secure a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Parkston on Sunday. 

Michael Buitenbos earned the win, striking out seven batters, surrendering three hits, one earned run and issuing one walk in six relief innings. Buitenbos added three hits for Platte, which produced 13 total as a team. 

Hunter Hewitt recorded three hits and two RBI. Ryan Allen and Dylan Soukup added two hits apiece, while Sheldon Gan, Richard Sternberg and Preston Nedved each had a hit. 

Parkston’s Dylan Mogck, Nate Doering and Billy Hamilton all had hits. Doering and Hamilton each drove in runs. Justin Devine allowed seven hits, six runs (one earned), walked four and struck out five batters in his three-inning start. 


Miller Outlaws 13, Groton Locke Electric 12 (10 innings)

MILLER — Jay Winter’s walk-off sacrifice fly lifted Miller to a non-league amateur baseball win over Groton Locke Electric on Sunday. 

Miller’s R. Clemente finished 3 of 4, drove in four runs and smacked two home runs. Ryan Soler finished 3 of 5 at the plate. Kyle Johnson had two hits, drove in two runs and scored from third base for the game-winning run. Miller finished with 18 hits. 

Johnson picked up the win after striking out five batters, allowing six hits, four earned runs and walking four batters in four relief innings. 

Locke Electric’s Wilson Bonet recorded three hits and three RBI. Colin Frey, Dylan Frey and Cody Jensen had two hits apiece. Dylan Frey drove in three runs, while Evan Erickson had two RBI. Erickson took the loss after surrendering eight hits, six runs (two earned runs), walking three and striking out four batters in 5.1 relief innings. 


Colome Chaos 10, Plankinton Gold Sox 1

COLOME — Colome collected 14 hits en route to a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over the Plankinton Gold Sox on Sunday. 

Kelly O’Bryan led Colome with three hits and one RBI. Shea Connot, Ben Connot, Jake Luse and Braden Gardner each had two hits. Luse earned the win after striking out seven batters, allowing three hits, one run and walking two batters in his seven-inning start. 

Logan DeRungs, Ryland DeVries and Devin Mehlhaff each had a hit for the Gold Sox. DeVries was tagged with the loss. He scattered eight hits, seven runs (four earned), walked three and struck out three in his five-inning start.
