Platte Killer Tomatoes 8, Mount Vernon Mustangs 3

MOUNT VERNON — Grant Doom struck out 14 batters and Platte racked up 12 hits in a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Mount Vernon Thursday.

Doom scattered seven hits, two runs (one earned) and walked one batter in his eight-inning start. Sheldon Gant had a team-high three hits, while Hunter Hewitt, Dylan Soukup and Hayden Kuiper each had two hits. Hewitt hammered a two-run homer in the first inning. Richard Sternberg, Ryan Alllen and Michael Buitenbos each had a hit.

Eric Giblin and Cameron Deinert each had two hits for the Mustangs. Giblin slugged a solo home run. Briggs Havlik, Koby Larson, Deric Denning and Luke Tiesler each had a hit. Denning took the loss after allowing nine hits, eight runs (seven earned), four walks and struck out 11 in his 6.2-inning start. 

Winner/Colome Pheasants 13, Parkston Mudcats 2 (7 innings)

PARKSTON — Winner/Colome erupted for 18 hits in a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Parkston Thursday.

Chandler Bakley led the Pheasants with four hits and three RBI. Reed Harter added three hits and one RBI. Austin Richey finished with two hits and four RBI, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Zach Harter and Derek Graesser each had two hits, while Graesser drove in a run. Drew DeMers, Dillon Lambley and Oscar Pravecek each had a hit. Tarrell Bauld earned the win after striking out five batters, allowing six hits, two earned runs and walking one batter in seven innings.

Parkston’s Jeff Harris had two hits, while Spencer Freudenthal, Dillon Stadlman, Nate Doering and Landon Sudbeck each had a hit. Jake Weber took the loss after allowing 15 hits, 10 runs (eight earned), two walks and struck out four batters in his 5.2-inning start.


Plankinton Bankers 2, Plankinton Gold Sox 0 

PLANKINTON — Travis Gant struck out 20 batters in a two-hit shutout as the Plankinton Bankers blanked the Plankinton Gold Sox in Pony Hills League amateur baseball action on Thursday. 

Gant issued just two walks on 124 pitches in the dominant pitching performance. Offensively, Gant had a hit. Carter Star had two hits, while Alex Loes, Trevor Boyd, Josh Geppert and Preston Kristensen each had a hit. Loes and Josh Engquist each drove in runs. 

For the Gold Sox, Ben Laufman and Cooper Carter each had a hit. Tom Harris took the loss after allowing one run, one hit, striking out two batters and walking two in two relief innings.

Colome Chaos 14, South Central Storm 4 (7 innings)

COLOME — Kelly O’Bryan struck out 12 batters as Colome picked up a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over South Central on Thursday. 

O’Bryan allowed seven hits, four earned runs and walked five batters on 158 pitches. Offensively, O’Bryan had four hits and drove in three runs. 

Ben Connot added three hits and Dalton Baker had two hits. Carter Brickman and Jackson Kinzer each had a hit. 

South Central’s Hunter Van Niewenhuyse finished 2 of 4 at the plate and drove in a run. Christian Schweigert, Tommy Determan, Aaron Vomacka, Jayd VanDerWerff and Blake Hoffmann each had a hit. VanDerWerff took the loss after allowing nine hits, 11 runs (six earned), four batters and struck out four batters in his 3.2-inning start. 


Chamberlain Mallards 10, Wessington Springs Owls 6

CHAMBERLAIN — Chamberlain used a seven-run sixth inning to secure a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win over Wessington Springs on Thursday. 

Chamberlain’s Evan Steiner struck out eight batters, allowed five hits, three earned runs and walked five batters in his 4.2-inning start. Steiner drove in two runs at the plate. 

Mike Schwartz and Matt Hilson had three hits apiece, while Adam Schroeder, Dakota Munger, Ryan Randall and Ian Anderson had two hits apiece. Kyle Forester had a hit. 

Wessington Springs’ Terrek Butterfield, Dylan Mogck and T. Kenobbie had two hits apiece G. Brandenburg and A. Olson each had a hit. Mogck and Kenobbie each drove in two runs. Butterfield took the loss after allowing 15 hits, 10 runs (nine earned), allowing one walk and struck out five batters in his six-inning start.
