Mount Vernon Mustangs 4, Alexandria Angels 3

ALEXANDRIA — The Mount Vernon Mustangs scored two runs in the ninth inning to outlast the Alexandria Angels in an amateur baseball game on Thursday.

Luke Tiesler earned the win for the Mustangs, surrendering three runs on five hits in eight innings and striking out four. Spencer Neugebauer led the Mustangs with two hits in four at bats.

Tyson Gau took the loss for the Angels, giving up two runs on one hit in one inning, striking out one and walking zero. Jed Schmidt started the game for the Angels, allowing two hits and two runs in eight innings and striking out 14. Gau and Michael Schoettmer each tallied two hits to lead Alexandria.

Parkston Mudcats 11, Corsica-Stickney Horned Frogs 9

CORSICA — Parkston and Corsica-Stickney combined for 20 runs and 24 hits in a Sunshine League slugfest in amateur baseball action on Thursday. 

Parkston’s Nate Doering finished 4 of 5 and knocked in three runs. Sam Freudenthal added three hits, while Nathan Boettcher had a solo homer. Dylan Mogck added two hits and two RBI, while Jeff Harris, Dawson Semmler, Landon Sudbeck and Jake Devine had a hit. 

Devine struck out 13 batters, allowed four hits, five runs (three earned) and walked four batters in his five-inning start. Weber struck out two batters, allowed six hits, four runs (three earned) and walked one in his 3 2/3 relief innings to earn the win.

Corsica-Stickney’s Aaron Groeneweg hammered a grand slam and finished 2 of 4 at the plate. Ryan Buck and Nathan Blom each had two hits. Luke Bamberg, Kris Menning, Blake Moke and Gavin Zomer each had a hit. Moke struck out five batters, allowed seven hits (four earned) and walked four batters in his five-inning start. Caleb Crist struck out four batters, allowed seven hits (four earned) and walked one batter in four relief innings. 


Winner/Colome Pheasants 20, Dimock-Emery Raptors 6

EMERY — Winner/Colome erupted for 20 hits and four home runs in a Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Dimock-Emery on Thursday.

Oscar Pravecek, Drew DeMers, Austin Richey and Reed Harter each smacked home runs for Winner/Colome, which piled on nine runs in the ninth inning. 

Chandler Bakley had a team-high four hits and drove in two runs. Harter finished 3 of 6 and drove in four runs. DeMers and Richey had three hits apiece, while Richey drove in four runs. Pravecek and Brendan Kamerzell had two hits apiece, while Derek Graesser, Austin Calhoon and Zach Harter each had a hit. Connor Hopkins struck out six batters, allowed three hits and one run and walked three in five innings.

Dimock-Emery’s Tyson Kayser and Sam Arend had two hits apiece. Peyton Nash, Jared Schmidt, Gene Kitchens, Colton Plagmann and Doug Sudbeck each had a hit. Sam Michels, Sam Pischke, Ben Wermers, Sudbeck and Arend each had an RBI. Schmidt struck out four batters, allowed seven hits, seven runs (four earned) and walked one batter in his four-inning start. 

 

Plankinton Gold Sox 7, Wessington Springs Owls 1

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Plankinton Gold Sox used a five run fifth inning to earn an amateur baseball win over the Wessington Springs Owls on Thursday.

Ryland DeVries picked up the win for the Gold Sox, pitching seven innings and allowing one run on three hits and striking out 12. The Gold Sox recorded nine hits, with Ben Laufman and Jesse Grosdidier each collecting two hits to lead the Gold Sox.

Terrek Butterfield took the loss for the Owls, pitching five innings and allowing seven hits and seven runs, while striking out four.


Canova Gang 11, Dell Rapids PBR 1

DELL RAPIDS — Canova picked up a 10-run win over Dell Rapids PBR in a Cornbelt League amateur baseball game on Thursday. 

Kenny Gassman earned the win. Garret Gassman smacked a home run, while Tim Gassman added two hits and drove in three runs. Derek Miller and Jason Miller recorded two hits apiece. 


Plankinton Bankers 10, Colome Chaos 0

PLANKINTON — The Plankinton Bankers shutout the Colome Chaos in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball game on Thursday.

Travis Gant earned the win for the Bankers, giving up zero runs on six hits in six innings, while striking out 10.

Trevor Salmonson led the Bankers with three hits in four at bats, while Gant tallied two hits and three RBI’s.

Kelly O’Bryan took the loss for the Chaos, pitching four innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits and striking out six.

Willie Beckers and Shea Connot each had two hits to lead the Chaos.


Yankton Tappers 13, Freeman Black Sox 2

YANKTON — The Yankton Tappers raced past the Freeman Black Sox in a South Central amateur baseball game on Thursday.

Kieren Luellman picked up the win for the Tappers, allowing seven hits and two runs in seven innings, while striking out seven. Mitch Gullickson led the Tappers with two hits in three at bats, while Mason Townsend tallied four RBI’s.

Ben Simonsen took the loss for the Black Sox, pitching 2 â…“ innings and giving up eight runs on one hit and striking out four. Blake Schrodermeier and Owen Feser each tallied two hits to lead the Black Sox.


Volga Cormorants 19, Brookings Cubs 9

BROOKINGS — The Volga Cormorants pulled away from the Brookings Cubs for an amateur baseball win on Thursday.

Josh Nelson earned the win for the Cormorants, pitching five innings and giving up three runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking one. Andrew Grack started the game for the Cormorants, giving up six runs on three hits in one inning and striking out two.

The Cormorants tallied 15 hits, with Layne Lucas leading with four hits in six at bats. Nelson, Tyson Sonnenberg, Cole Gross, and Nate Gonnelly each had two hits. Gross and Gonnelly each recorded four RBI’s. 

Mason Bebensee took the loss for the Cubs, pitching 2 â…” innings while allowing eight runs on seven hits and striking out five. Carlos Rodriguez started the game for the Cubs, going 1 â…“ innings and allowing six runs on one hit and striking out one. JaColby Anderson and Tyler Kreutner each had two hits to lead the Cubs.
