June 23 Legion Baseball Roundup - Castlewood scores two ninth-inning runs to clip Milbank

Castlewood Post 250 6, Milbank 4

MILBANK — Castlewood Post 250 scored two runs in the ninth inning to secure a Legion baseball win over Milbank on Thursday.

Xander Sheehan led Castlewood Post 250 on the mound, lasting three innings and allowing two hits and zero runs, while striking out three. Booker Schooley started the game for Post 250, pitching six innings and allowing five hits and four runs, while striking out eight.

Sheehan, Lane Tvedt, and Jeremiah Wiersma each had two hits to lead Post 250. Wiersma drove in three runs.

Cole Swenson took the loss for Milbank, allowing three runs on three hits in four innings, while striking out six. Kellen Hoecke started the game for Milbank, allowing seven hits and three runs in five innings, while striking out seven.

Swenson, Hoecke, and Merrick Junker each recorded two hits.

 

Castlewood Post 250 11, Milbank 7

MILBANK — Kegan Tvedt had three hits and drove in four runs in Castlewood’s Legion baseball win over Milbank on Thursday. 

Lane Tvedt, Jeremiah Wiersma and Hunter Smith each had two hits. Lane Tvedt drove in two runs. Kegan Tvedt struck out eight batters, allowed seven runs (six earned) and walked three batters in his four-inning start. 

Milbank’s Isaac Schulte had three hits and drove in three runs, while Kellen Hoeke had two hits. Merrick Junker took the loss for Milbank. He allowed four hits, six runs, struck out four batters in 1.2 innings.


Dickinson Roughriders (N.D.) 10, Watertown Post 17 1

DICKINSON, N.D. — The Dickinson Roughriders raced past Watertown Post 17 for a Legion baseball win on Thursday.

Carson Weiler picked up the win for the Dickinson Roughriders, lasting three innings and allowing zero runs on one hit, while striking out three and walking one.

Troy Berg led Dickinson with three hits in four at bats.

Jackson Maag took the loss for Watertown Post 17, giving up seven runs on ten hits and striking out one in three innings.

Trevon Rawdon, Braedon Zaug, and Marcus Rabine each had one hit to lead Post 17. Rabine also drove in one run.


Watertown Post 17 2, Eden Prairie (Min.) 0

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Watertown Post 17 edged Eden Prairie in a Legion baseball game on Thursday.

Jerod Cyrus took the win for Watertown Post 17, allowing six hits and zero runs in seven innings, while striking out seven.

Ben Althoff, Drew Denzer, Marcus Rabine, and Braedon Zaug each had one hit for Watertown Post 17.

Carter Arneson took the loss for Eden Prairie, giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out six in six innings.

Joe Flom led Eden Prairie with three hits in three at bats.


Brandon Valley Post 131 7, Rocky Mountain (CO) 5

OMAHA, Neb. — Brandon Valley surged past Rocky Mountain for a Legion baseball win on Thursday.

Jarred Zerr picked up the win for Post 131, surrendering zero runs on four hits in five innings, while striking out two. Tayden Mitchell started the game for Post 131, pitching two innings and allowing five runs on five hits, while striking out one.

Austin Reiter led Post 131 with two hits in three at bats.

Rahlen March-King took the loss for Rocky Mountain, allowing six hits and seven runs, while striking out six in 5 ⅔ innings.

Phoenix West and Nate Eliason each had two hits to lead Rocky Mountain, while Brady Hall drove in two runs.


Brandon Valley Post 131 2, Bozeman (Mont.) 0

OMAHA, Neb. — Brandon Valley Post 131 edged Bozeman, Montana, in a Legion baseball game on Thursday.

Tate Ivers took the win for Post 131, allowing zero runs on two hits in seven innings, while striking out four.

Tayton Stroh and Austin Reiter each had two hits to lead Post 131. 

Jackson Burke took the loss for Bozeman, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking one.


Post 15 East 3, Aberdeen Smittys 1

ABERDEEN — Post 15 East scored two runs in the eighth inning to pick up a Legion baseball win over the Aberdeen Smittys on Thursday.

Andrew Glovich took the win for Post 15 East, allowing six hits and one run in seven innings, while striking out five.

Sawyer Tolk led Post 15 East with three hits in four at bats, while Lincoln Vasgaard added two hits.

Drew Salfrank took the loss for the Aberdeen Smittys, pitching 7 ⅓ innings and allowing three runs on nine hits, while striking out one.

Ethan Kjenstad led the Aberdeen Smittys with two hits in two at bats.


Post 15 East 12, Aberdeen Smittys 1

ABERDEEN — Post 15 East flew past the Aberdeen Smittys for a Legion baseball win on Thursday.

John Dekkenga took the win for Post 15 East, going five innings and allowing four hits and one run, while striking out two.

Sawyer Tolk, Andrew Glovich, Lincoln Vasgaard, and Ethan Bruns each tallied two hits to lead Post 15 East. Vasgaard led with three RBI’s, while Tolk, Glovich, and Jack Smith each had two RBI’s.

Brain Holmstrom took the loss for the Aberdeen Smittys, giving up nine runs on seven hits in 2 ⅔ innings, while striking out one.

Ethan Kjenstad had one RBI to lead the Aberdeen Smittys.


Mitchell Post 18 9, Sturgis Post 33 Titans 4

STURGIS — Mitchell Post 18 scored one run in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie and never looked back in a Legion baseball win over the Sturgis Post 33 Titans on Thursday.

Dylan Soulek earned the win for Post 18, giving up four runs on eight hits in six innings, while striking out three.

Seth Muth led Post 18 with three hits in five at bats. Jonah Schmidt, Jake Helleloid, and Jace Larson each had two hits. Schmidt tallied four RBI’s while Helleloid and Brock Sparks each had two RBI’s.

Dustin Alan took the loss for the Sturgis Post 33 Titans, surrendering six runs on seven hits in 4 ⅔ innings, while striking out two. Owen Cass started the game for the Titans, giving up three runs on three hits in two innings, while striking out two.

Evan Stroud and Kain Peters led the Titans with two hits and one RBI apiece.


Yankton Post 12 4, Post 307 Royals 0

YANKTON — Joe Gokie’s no-hitter propelled Yankton Post 12 to a Legion baseball win over the Post 307 Royals on Thursday.

Gokie earned the win for Post 12 by allowing zero runs on zero hits, while striking out five.

Post 12 tallied 12 hits, with Gokie, Drew Ryken, Rugby Ryken, and Cody Oswald recording two hits apiece. Rugby Ryken drove in two runs.

Wyatt Hermsen took the loss for the Post 307 Royals, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on nine hits, while striking out three.

The Post 307 Royals won game 2 by a score of 4-0.


Lake Norden 13, Groton Post 39 4

GROTON — Lake Norden pulled away from Groton Post 39 for a Legion baseball win on Thursday.

Tyson Stevenson picked up the win for Lake Norden, lasting four innings and allowing two runs on one hit, while striking out six.

Christian Rodriguez, Carson Pederson, and Jackson Noem each had three hits to lead Lake Norden, while Cameron Thue added two hits. Noem led the way with three RBI, while Rodriguez, Pederson, and Thue had two RBI apiece.

Evin Nehls took the loss for Post 39, pitching 1 ⅓ innings and allowing 11 runs on five hits, while striking out three.

Bradin Althoff led Post 39 with two hits in two at bats.


Mandan Chiefs (N.D.) 8, Pierre Post 8 7

MANDAN, N.D. — The Mandan Chiefs used a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn a Legion baseball win over Pierre Post 8 on Thursday.

Jett Zabel took the loss for Pierre Post 8, giving up one run on one hit, while walking one in ⅓ of an inning. Ridge Leimbach started the game for Post 8, pitching four innings and allowing six hits and two runs, while striking out six.

George Stalley went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Post 8, while Zabel and Brecken Krueger each had two hits. Krueger and Stalley each had two RBI’s.


Sioux Falls Post 15 West 7, Huron Post 7 6

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Post 15 West edged Huron Post 7 in a Legion baseball game on Thursday.

Keegan Johnston’s sac fly scored the winning run for Post 15 West in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Noah Goodroad took the win for Post 15 West, allowing three hits and one run in two innings, while striking out one.

Goodroad, Brayden Byrum, Ryan Rysavy, and Dexter Payne all collected two hits to lead Post 15 West. Goodroad, Payne, and Johnston each drove in two runs. 

Max Kranzler took the loss for Huron Post 7, pitching ⅔ of an inning and allowing one hit and one run, while striking out one. Mason Davis started the game for Huron Post 7, lasting five innings and allowing eight hits and four runs, while striking out seven and walking one.

Davis, Dawsyn Rogers, and Bubba Peterson each had two hits to lead Post 7.

Huron Post 7 won game 2, 11-5.


Post 1 6, Elk Point-Jefferson 5

VERMILLION — Jake Jensen’s sac fly scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal a Legion baseball victory for Post 1 over Elk Point-Jefferson on Thursday.

Willis Robertson earned the win on the mound for Post 1, allowing two hits and zero runs in 1 ⅓ innings, while striking out three. Ben Burbach started the game for Post 1, giving up five runs on four hits in 6 ⅔ innings, while striking out nine and walking one.

Charlie Ward led Post 1 with three hits in four at bats, while Connor Saunders drove in two runs.

Ben Swatek took the loss for Elk Point-Jefferson, allowing six hits and six runs in 7 ⅔ innings, while striking out four.

Jordan Anderson drove in two runs to lead Elk Point-Jefferson.


Post 70 Flandreau 8, Baltic Post 175 3

BALTIC — Post 70 Flandreau pulled away from Baltic Post 175 for a Legion baseball win on Thursday.

Kolby Peters earned the win for Post 70 Flandreau, lasting 5 ⅔ innings and allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out eight.

Tison Burggraff led Post 70 Flandreau with two hits in four at bats, while Tanner Christenson drove in two runs.

Riley Dobbins took the loss for Baltic Post 175, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out seven in four innings.

Dobbins and Jose Valadez each had two hits to lead Post 175.


Alexandria 15, Wessington Springs 3

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Alexandria raced past Wessington Springs for a Legion baseball win on Thursday.

Riley Haynes picked up the victory for Alexandria, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings, while striking out three.

Alexandria tallied 12 hits, with Haynes going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Gavin Doyle, Hunter Robinson, and Preston Klinkhammer recorded two hits apiece. Klinkhammer led with three RBI’s, while Robinson, Bodie Burnham, Jackson Jarding, and Hadley Wallace each drove in two runs.
