June 5 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Colman outlasts Canova in Cornbelt League slugfest

Colman A’s 16, Canova Gang 14

CANOVA — Corey Roach's ninth inning two-out, two-run single broke a 14-14 tie and lifted Colman to a Cornbelt League amateur baseball win over Canova on Sunday.

Roach was one of five players with three hits for Colman, which erupted for 20 total hits and 16 RBI. Colt Hawkins, Corey Roach, Clayton Roach, Chase Dewitt and Adam Fritz each had three hits. Hawkins and Dewitt both hammered home runs. Deon Entringer and Chris Meyer had two hits apiece, while Ian Barker added a hit. 

Dewitt and Hawkins both drove in four runs, while Carter Roach added three RBI. Entringer collected two RBI, while Fritz drove in a run. 

Barker allowed 14 hits, 11 runs (seven earned), walked three and struck out one in his seven-inning start. Corey Roach allowed three hits, three runs (two earned), walked one and struck out one in two relief innings to earn the win. 

The Gang racked up 17 hits in the slugfest. Jared Miller, Kendall Gassman and Garrett Gassman each slugged home runs. Cole Gassman finished 3 of 4 and drove in a run. Trey Krier, Jared Miller, Garrett Gassman, Kendall Gassman, Troy Genzlinger and Tim Gassman had two hits apiece. Kendall Gassman had a team-high three RBI.

Derek Miller struck out eight batters, allowed nine hits, eight runs (five earned) and walked four batters in his six-inning start. Krier surrendered 11 hits, eight earned runs, struck out four and walked one in three relief innings to take the loss. 


Dimock-Emery Raptors 12, Parkston Mudcats 7

EMERY — Phil Johnson struck out 10 batters and smacked a home run in Dimock-Emery’s Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Parkston on Sunday. 

Johnson surrendered seven hits, seven runs (four earned) and walked six in the complete-game performance. Offensively, Johnson went 2 of 5 at the plate and belted a solo home run in Dimock-Emery’s four-run first inning. 

Jason Schmidt finished 2 of 3, drove in three runs and clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning. Doug Sudbeck and Gene Kitchens had three hits apiece, while Peyton Nash added two hits. Sam Michels, Sam Arend, Tyson Kayser and Chase Arend each had a hit. 

Parkston’s Ryan McGinnis had two hits and belted a homer. Jeff Harris also had two hits and drove in a run. Dylan Mogck, Dawson Semmler, Landon Sudbeck and Justin Devine each had a hit. Jake Weber took the loss after surrendering 15 hits, 12 runs (10 earned), six walks and striking out three batters in his 6.2-inning start. 


Castlewood Ravens 1, Harrisburg Hops 0

BROOKINGS — Alex Gauer threw a two-hit shutout to lift Castlewood to an amateur baseball win over Harrisburg on Sunday. 

Gauer struck out six batters and walked two batters in the seven-inning contest. Offensively, Gauer added three hits and Trent Wookey recorded two hits. Nick Geffre had a hit and drove in the game’s lone run, an RBI single in the third inning. 

Jeremiah Mauk took the loss for the Hops, lasting six innings, allowing five hits and one run through six innings. 


Crofton, Neb. Bluejays 4, Freeman Black Sox 2

FREEMAN — The Crofton (Neb.) Bluejays picked up a South Central amateur baseball win over the Freeman Black Sox on Sunday.

Ben Hegge won the game on the mound for the Bluejays, allowing nine hits and two runs in nine innings, while striking out six. Lathan Maibaum led the Bluejays with two hits in four at bats.

Nate Brohman took the loss for the Black Sox, giving up three runs on three in five innings, while striking out seven and walking one.

The Black Sox had nine hits, including two hits apiece from Trey Christensen and Jake Weier.


Brookings Cubs 2, Renner Monarchs 1

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Cubs held off the Renner Monarchs for an amateur baseball win on Sunday.

Jackson Krogman earned the win for the Cubs, pitching two innings and allowing one run on one hit and striking out one. JaColby Anderson started the game for the Cubs, going five innings, allowing five hits and zero runs, while striking out two.

Krogman, Matt Bauer, Jeff Fish, and Chase McDaniel each had one hit for the Cubs. Krogman also drove in two runs.

Josh Olson took the loss for the Monarchs, going one inning while allowing two hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one. Josh Baumgart started the game for Renner, lasting five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs, while striking out five.

Cyler Melvin led the Monarchs with two hits in two at bats.


Baltic River Dawgs 9, South Central Storm 7

BALTIC — The Baltic River Dawgs held off the South Central Storm for an amateur baseball win on Sunday.

Zach Hefty earned the win for the River Dawgs, going eight innings, while allowing six runs on 13 hits and striking out 14.

Hefty, Wade Canaday, and Dagen Schramm each had three hits, while Jon Wilhelmsen managed two hits and drove in two runs. Hunter Larson also drove in two runs.

Jaden Frank took the loss for the South Central Storm, pitching four innings and allowing nine hits and four runs while striking out one and walking one. Blake Boes started the game for the Storm, giving up five runs on four hits in four innings and striking out nine.

The South Central Storm tallied 13 hits. Frank and Rylan Peck each had three hits, while Christian Schweigert had two hits and three RBI’s. Peck added two RBI’s.
