Sioux Falls Jefferson 11, Sioux Falls Washington 0 (5 innings)

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Jefferson blanked Sioux Falls Washington to capture its second-straight Class AA state championship on Saturday.

The Cavaliers (23-0) didn’t allow a run in three state tournament games, outscoring its opponents 18-0 during the weekend. 

On Saturday at Bowden Field, Jefferson pounded out 12 hits, scoring runs in four of the five innings to claim a second-consecutive championship.

Macy Bryant led the Cavaliers with three hits, including two doubles and a homer, driving in two runs, Brooklyn Herrera added three RBIs on two hits, a double, walk and the game-ending two-run homer, Mackenzie Bierman had two RBIs on two hits, including a double, Ayleah Johnson added two hits, including a solo homer, Lydia Johnson had two RBIs on one hit while Lauryn Bullis had an RBI on a double and a walk in the win.

Tya Devericks earned the victory on the mound for the Cavaliers, allowing just one hit and one walk in five shutout innings, striking out two.

For Washington, Maddy Mescher allowed eight runs on 10 hits and three walks in four innings, striking out two.

Aubrey Chavez had the lone hit in the loss for the Warriors.


Harrisburg 10, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 4

SIOUX FALLS — A five-run fifth inning separated Harrisburg from Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the third-place game at the Class AA state softball tournament on Saturday.

Mya Gibson batted 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homer, driving in three runs in the win, Kennedy Kokenge added two RBIs on two hits, a double, and an RBI, Stella Disbrow and Anna Simunek each had two hits and an RBI while Leia Knutson drove in a run in the win as well.

Kylie Visker took the win on the mound in four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out one.

For Roosevelt, Desiree Hinsch took the loss in 4.1 innings, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and two walks, striking out four.

Melle Mellegaard had two hits, a double, and an RBI, Aliyah Chagolla had two hits while Raelyn Sieler and Trista Anderson each had an RBI on one hit in the loss.


Brandon Valley 4, Rapid City Stevens 2

SIOUX FALLS — Jacey Meyers tossed seven strong innings as Brandon Valley clipped Rapid City Stevens to win the consolation championship at the Class AA state tournament on Saturday.

Meyers allowed just two runs on five hits in 71 pitches of a complete-game outing, striking out one in the win.

Peyton Amdahl and Karlee Small each had two hits, Alexa Harms added two hits and an RBI while Briley Laber, Kennedy Fitts and Ava Groeneveld each tallied an RBI on one hit in the win.

For Stevens, Macy Muth allowed four runs on 10 hits and a walk in six innings, striking out two.

Audrinna Colhoff and Josie Thompson each drove in a run on one hit, including a solo homer by Colhoff in the loss.


Sioux Falls Lincoln 10, O’Gorman 8

SIOUX FALLS — A four-run seventh inning guided Sioux Falls Lincoln over O’Gorman to take seventh place at the Class AA state tournament on Saturday.

Brooklyn Brown took the win on the mound in seven innings of work, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and a walk, striking out five.

Hayden Kok batted 5-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for the Patriots, Paige Stensaas, Jersey Williams and Kennedi Fairbrother each had two hits and an RBI while Anna Bergan tallied three RBIs on one hit in the win.

For OG, London Backes took the loss in seven innings pitched, allowing 10 runs on 15 hits and three walks, striking out three.

Sonia Deckert, Kinsley Sheridan and Alice Gundvaldson each had two hits and an RBI, Averie Howe tallied two RBIs on two hits while Atley Herold-Stephens drove in a run in the loss.
