June 8 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Winner/Colome picks up Sunshine League win over Mount Vernon

Winner/Colome 12, Mount Vernon 2 (7 innings) 

WINNER — Winner/Colome racked up 13 hits en route to a Sunshine League amateur baseball win on Thursday.

Austin Richey racked up a team-high four hits, scored two runs and drove in a run. Reed Harter and Chandler Bakley recorded two hits and two RBI apiece. Derek Graesser and Austin Calhoon both drove in two runs apiece. JJ Farner allowed three hits, two earned runs and walked three batters in his five-inning start for the win. Connor Hopkins struck out three batters and allowed two hits in two scoreless innings of relief. 

For Mount Vernon, Briggs Havlik had two hits and Bradley Dean hit a two-run homer. Spencer Neugebauer and Eric Giblin each had hits. Dean allowed five hits, four earned runs, walked two batters and struck out one batter in his two-inning start for the loss. 


Alexandria 10, Parkston Devil Rays 1

PARKSTON — Jed Schmidt struck out 16 batters in a complete-game performance to pace Alexandria to a Sunshine League amateur baseball win on Thursday. 

Schmidt allowed three hits, one earned run and walked five batters on 144 pitches. Offensively, Tyson Gau had two hits. Reggie Slaba, Jordan Gau, Peyton Smith, Michael Schoettmer, Jacob Giles and Jerrod Zens each had hits. Smith, Schoettmer and Giles each drove in two runs. 

Jonah Schmidt, Max Scott and Logan Heidinger each had hits. Jake Helleloid took the loss after allowing five hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out six batters in his five-inning start. 


Dimock-Emery 9, Platte 7

DIMOCK — Dimock-Emery scored seven unanswered runs to pick up a Sunshine League amateur baseball win on Thursday.

The Raptors received 14 hits from nine different players. Drew Kitchens, Peyton Nash, Gene Kitchens, Colton Plagmann and Phil Johnson had two hits apiece. Nash and Plagmann drove in two runs apiece, while Parker Bollinger hit a two-run homer. Jason Schmidt, Sam Pischke and Josh Engquist each had hits. Schmidt allowed 10 hits, six earned runs, walked four batters and struck out four batters in his complete-game performance. 

Platte’s Hunter Hewitt finished with three hits and drove in a run. Richard Sternberg and Mason Townsend each had two hits. Hayden Kuiper drove in three runs. Kelby VanDerWerff took the loss after allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, four walks and struck out one batter in three relief innings. 


Kimball/White Lake 11, Wessington Springs 3

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Kimball/White Lake logged 11 hits and Zak Wallner struck out 11 batters in a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win on Thursday.

Wallner allowed three hits, zero runs and zero walks in 5.1 innings of relief. Wallner added two hits, as did Trent Wookey, Wes Kroupa and Blake Leiferman. Leiferman drove in three runs, while Eathan Gaulke drove in two runs. Mitchell Price also drove in two runs. 

For Wessington Springs, Clay Olinger had two hits. Tarek Butterfield, Tyson Lien, Drew Olinger, Mason Schelske and Dalton Mogck each had hits. Landon Cleveland allowed seven hits, seven runs (five earned), struck out 11 batters and walked three in his six-inning start. 


Four Corners 12, Colome 10

COLOME — Eight different players recorded a hit as Four Corners picked up a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win on Thursday. 

Andrew Coverdale, J.D. Farley, Samuel Hand and Chris Dozark had two hits apiece for Four Corners. Hand drove in two runs. 

For Colome, Riley Orel logged three hits. Shea Connot, Carter Brickman, Jeff Ohlmann, Cameron Biggins, Kevin Carter and Christian Schweigert had two hits apiece.
