EUGENE, Oregon — Sioux Falls Washington’s Kael Miedema and Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest logged sixth-place finishes at Thursday’s Nike Outdoor Nationals.

Miedema posted a sixth-place finish in the boys discus, while VanDeest placed sixth in the middle school girls 1,500-meter run. 

Miedema, a future University of Nebraska thrower, had a throw of 187-feet in the discus. Bryce Ruland, of Waterford, Iowa, won the event with a toss of 213-9. 

VanDeest placed in the 1,500-meter run in 4 minutes and :47.18 seconds, finishing eight seconds behind the first-place runner. VanDeest also earned a seventh-place finish in the middle school girls one-mile run in 5:10.07, finishing 13 seconds behind the first-place runner.
