Mackenzie Casey is the new Lakota Tech High School boys basketball coach, the school announced on Tuesday, July 11.
Casey is an Oglala Sioux Tribal member who grew up in Wounded Knee and graduated from Red Cloud High School.
Casey played college basketball at South Dakota State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Casey was recently an assistant coach at Rapid City Central, while he previously was the head coach at Little Wound.
“I am very honored and grateful for the opportunity to coach Tatanka boys basketball,” Casey said in a release. “As a coach, I will bring passion, energy and knowledge to the program. I also look forward to teaching the student body and working with the staff at the very family-oriented Lakota Tech.”
Casey is married to Shawntay Lupi and they have two children, son Riley and daughter Emma.
