May 23 High School Baseball Roundup - Honkers top Gregory County, advance to state tourney
Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake’s Dawson Hoffman slides safely into score while the ball gets past Gregory County catcher Gunner Stephens during a 12-run second inning for the Honkers in a 18-2 win in the Region 4B game Monday in Platte. With the win the Honkers advances to next week’s Class B State Tournament in Sioux Falls.

Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake 18, Gregory County 2 (5 innings) 

PLATTE — Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake coasted past Gregory County in Region 4B action to secure a spot in the Class B high school baseball tournament on Monday. 

In the second inning, the Honkers erupted for 12 runs and they racked up 18 total hits. 

Grayson Hanson, Dawson Hoffman and Jaxon Christensen recorded three hits apiece. Hanson drove in four runs, while Christensen had three RBI and Hoffman added two RBI. Aiden Bultje, Caden Foxley and Joey Foxley had two hits apiece. 

Hoffman struck out two batters, allowed three hits, one run and walked zero batters in his three-inning start. Caden Oberbroekling struck out five batters, allowed two hits, one earned run and walked three batters in his two relief innings. 

Gregory County’s Trey Murray had two of the team’s five hits. Grant Thomas and Bryce Frank each had a hit. Thomas had an RBI. Frank allowed six hits, six runs (five earned) and struck out one batter in his one-inning start. Brogan Glover allowed 11 hits, 11 runs (three earned), walked three batters and struck out one in three relief innings. 

In the first round, Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake shutout Lead-Deadwood, 10-0. Gregory County advanced to the region finals with a win over Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman, 10-1. 


Winner/Colome 7, Belle Fourche 2

WINNER — Winner/Colome advanced to the Class B high school baseball tournament with a win over Belle Fourche in the Region 4B tournament. 

Eathan Bartels was the winning pitcher for Winner/Colome, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings, while striking out six batters. Aiden Barfuss had one relief inning.

The Royals had one home run in the game, coming from Pierce Nelson in the second inning. Winner/Colome registered ten hits, with Charley Pravecek leading the way with three hits in four at bats. Nelson recorded two hits and three RBI’s, while Barfuss, Bartels, Ashton Klein, Slade Cournoyer, and Adam Bohnet each had one hit. 

Belle Fourche’s Nolan Wahlfeldt took the loss, allowing nine hits and seven runs in four innings, while striking out four. Sean Wahlfeldt pitched two relief innings, allowing one hit and walking four.

Evan Vissia led the Broncs with two hits in four at bats and two RBI’s, while Gabe Heck, Dalton Davis, Brayden Carbajal, and Sean Wahlfeldt each had one hit. 

In the first round, Winner/Colome beat Rapid City Christian, 13-3. Belle Fourche topped St. Thomas More, 16-6, in its opener. 


Parkston/Tripp/Ethan 4, Vermillion 3

VERMILLION — Parkston/Tripp/Ethan held off Vermillion to advance to the Class B high school baseball tournament in the Region 1B tournament.

Ty Neugebauer picked up the win for Parkston/Tripp/Ethan, allowing one hit and two runs, and striking out seven batters in 6 ⅓ innings. Kaleb Weber pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Luke Bormann led Parkston/Tripp/Ethan with two hits in three at bats, while Will Jodozi, Jay Storm, and Maddox Brissette each tallied one hit. 

Vermillion’s Jake Jensen took the loss, going five innings, allowing three runs on three hits, and striking out four batters. Ben Burbach and Clayton Sorensen each had an RBI, while Burbach, Carter Mart, and Willis Robertson each recorded a hit.

In the first round, Parkston/Tripp/Ethan defeated Elk Point-Jefferson, 11-2. Vermillion advanced to the region finals with a win over Canton, 13-3.


Dakota Valley 4, Bon Homme 3

NORTH SIOUX CITY — Dakota Valley edged Bon Homme in the Region 1B tournament to advance to the Class B high school baseball tournament. 

Randy Rosenquist’s sac fly drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jake Pruchniak took the win for Dakota Valley, pitching seven innings, while allowing three runs on six hits and striking out 12.

Dakota Valley had seven hits on the day, including two each from Isaac Bruns and Brayden Major.

Logan Winckler took the loss for Bon Homme, pitching one inning, allowing one run on two hits, striking out one, and walking one. Riley Rothschadl started the game, going 5 ⅓ innings and allowing five hits and three runs, while striking out ten and walking one. 

Carter Uecker led Bon Homme with two hits in three at bats.

Dakota Valley defeated Centerville, 10-0, in the opening round. Bon Homme advanced to the region finals with a 4-1 win over Wagner.
