CANTON — The Milbank boys won the team title at Monday's Canton Invitational scoring 139 points, ahead of Vermillion (87) and Canton (82). Elk Point-Jefferson (80) and Tri-Valley (73) rounded out the top-five teams. 

The Dakota Valley girls and Elk Point-Jefferson girls both scored 135 points, ahead of Canton (88). Milbank (80) and Dell Rapids (58) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Milbank’s Emmett Hanson won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.50), the 300-meter hurdles (:42.59) and ran a leg on Milbank’s second place 800-meter relay (1:35.83). 

James Batchelor won the 1,600-meter run (4:51.27) and ran the opening leg on the Bulldogs winning 3,200-meter relay team (8:33.39). Payton Brown was second in the 1,600-meter run (4:51.73) and ran legs on Milbank’s winning 3,200-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay (3:38.03)

Milbank also had wins from Oliver Korth in the shot put (42-05.5) and freshman Samuel Rick in the triple jump (42-09.50).

Vermillion picked up wins from Jacob Chasing Hawk in the 800-meter run (2:13.23), the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (3:55.09) and Rollie French in the javelin (141-00). 

Dell Rapids athletes Grady Lamer (:53.04) and John Mortrude (:54.11) finished first and second in the 400-meter dash. The Quarrier 400-meter relay team of Mason Stubbe, Cole Ruesink, Ryan Baker and Jack Henry won the 400-meter relay (:44.53) clocking the fastest Class A time so far this season. 

In girls action Silja Anderson was a double-winner for Dakota Valley claiming titles in the 100-meter dash (:12.54) and the 100-meter hurdles (:15.41). Panther junior Sophia Redler finished second in the 800-meter run (2:31.49) and edged teammate Alex McCullough to win  the 1,600-meter run (5:32.64). 

Dakota Valley’s Claire Munsch was a double-winner for high jump (5-02) and the triple jump (35-08)

Elk Point-Jefferson’s Lauren McDermott won the 300-meter hurdles (:48.42), finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.55) and 200-meter dash (:26.60) and ran the anchor leg on the Huskies winning 800-meter relay team (1:51.91). 

Elk Point-Jefferson’s Molli Harkin won the shot put (36-10.5) while teammate Bentlee Kollbaum won the javelin (110-05)
