Miller captures Big Dakota Conference tourney championship

FORT PIERRE — Class A No. 4 Miller captured the Big Dakota Conference tournament championship on Saturday. The Rustlers defeated Crow Creek (25-2, 25-9), Todd County (25-12, 25-12), Winner, (25-12, 25-21) and Mobridge-Pollock (25-8, 25-13) en route to the championship.

In the title match against Mobridge-Pollock, Miller’s Gracen Werdel logged one ace, six kills and six digs. Kaitlyn Anderberg added five kills, while Aleah Schlechter posted four kills, three aces and two digs. Paige Werdel logged three kills. Olivia Resel added 19 assists. Kate Lichty recorded eight digs and Jolie Palmer posted five digs. 


Sioux Valley wins Lake Preston Invitational

LAKE PRESTON — Sioux Valley captured the Lake Preston Invitational tourney championship on Saturday. The Cossacks defeated Estelline-Hendricks (25-21, 25-16), Iroquois/Lake Preston (25-21, 25-19) and De Smet (25-22, 25-20) en route to the championship. 

In the title match against De Smet, Sioux Valley’s Adison Renkly finished with nine kills and eight digs. Kaedyn Sapp logged eight kills and eight digs. Emma Gorvin posted eight digs. Keyra Kruse had two blocks. Sunny Hesby recorded 13 assists, while Machaela Gerasch had nine assists. Kaedyn Sapp posted four aces and eight digs.

For De Smet, Ivey Schoenfelder logged six kills and one block. Hazel Luethmers recorded five aces and five kills. Megan Dylla had 11 digs. Aubree Blue recorded 10 digs. 


Rapid City Christian 3, Mahpiya Luta 0

RAPID CITY — Rapid City Christian swept Mahpiya Luta in Saturday high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-9, 25-10 and 25-8.

Rapid City Christian’s Chloe Weber finished with 11 kills, four aces and two digs. Sam Warnke posted seven kills and three digs. Miley Johnson recorded five kills and one block. Maddie Altstiel added five kills, two aces and one block. Paisley Griffith added three aces and four digs. Elle King had three aces and five digs. Adi Egge had 26 assists, while Clara Nalley posted seven digs. 

Mahpiya Luta stats were not reported. 


Bridgewater-Emery tourney cut short by power outage issues

EMERY — Due to power outage issues within the city of Emery, Bridgewater-Emery was unable to complete its volleyball tournament on Saturday.
