Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Libby Castelli is the 2023-24 Gatorade South Dakota girls cross-country runner of the year.

Castelli is the third Gatorade South Dakota girls cross-country runner of the year to be chosen from O'Gorman High School.

The award, which celebrates the nation’s top high school athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community, distinguishes Castelli as South Dakota’s best high school girls cross country player.

The 5-foot-3 junior won the Class AA state meet this past season with a time of 17:31.91, breaking the tape 29.35 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor and leading the Knights to a fifth-place finish as a team.

Castelli, who also earned First Team All-State honors for the O’Gorman girls soccer team this fall, was the only state runner to qualify for a national championship race after her fourth-place finish at the Nike Cross Heartland Regional Championships.

Castelli’s sister, Katie, was the 2020-21 Gatorade South Dakota girls cross-country runner of the year. Castelli has maintained a 3.96 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
