O’Gorman, Brandon Valley headline Class AA girls basketball all-state team

State finalists O’Gorman and Brandon Valley landed two players apiece on this season’s Class AA girls basketball all-state first team, as selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. 

O’Gorman, which won its third straight state championship, was represented on the first team by Sydney Terveen and Ruby Moore. Brandon Valley’s Alyvia Padgett and Gracie Salter were also first-team selections. Jefferson’s Brinley Altenburg and Washington’s Dana Harpe rounded out the first-team selections. 

Padgett, who is making her third consecutive all-state first-team selection, received the most all-state votes and repeated as the Class AA player of the year. A 5-foot-7 guard, Padgett powered the Lynx to a runner-up finish and a 23-1 record. This season, Padgett averaged 26 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, while adding 63 steals. For her career, Padgett scored the eighth most points in Class AA girls basketball history (1,598). 

Padgett, who was selected as the Class AA Spirit of Su recipient, will play college basketball at Division II power Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Terveen, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, is making her second consecutive Class AA all-state first-team selection. She was instrumental in O’Gorman’s three-peat. Terveen totaled 33 points and six rebounds in O’Gorman’s 59-53 state championship win over Brandon Valley on March 14. She tallied 18.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, while logging 67 steals. She will play college basketball at Division I Nebraska-Omaha. 

Altenburg landed on the Class AA all-state first team for the second straight season. A 5-foot-10 junior guard, averaged 18.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and two assists per game. Altenburg, who scored her 1,000th career point this season, led the Cavaliers to an eighth-place finish at state. She has received a number of Division I scholarship offers. 

A 6-foot senior guard, Harpe was a Class AA all-state second-team selection last season. This season, she guided the Warriors to a third-place finish at the state tournament. She averaged 18.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. Harpe finished with 938 career points. She will play college basketball at Division II University of Sioux Falls. 

A 5-foot-8 junior guard, Moore was selected to her second consecutive Class AA all-state first team. She totaled 15.3 points, 4.6 assists per game and added 82 steals for the state champs. Moore has verbally committed to play college basketball at Division I South Dakota State University. 

Salter, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, was a second-team honoree last season. This season, she averaged 12.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, while swatting 34 shots. She will play college basketball at Division II University of Sioux Falls.
