St. Thomas More 38, Hot Springs 7 

RAPID CITY — St. Thomas More pulled away from Hot Springs in Class 11B playoff action on Thursday. 

The Cavaliers will host Mount Vernon/Plankinton in the second round on Oct. 30. 


Winner 20, Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central 12

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — No. 11 Winner stunned No. 6 Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central in the first round of Class 11B high school football playoffs Thursday.

Winner’s Quincy Phillips completed five passes for 74 yards, adding a six-yard touchdown run in the win. Zac Olson tallied 17 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown while Seth Heath added 37 yards on nine carries. Camdyn Anderson caught one pass for 34 yards while Carter McKenzie hauled in three passes for 27 yards in the win.

For WWSSC, Luke Larson tallied seven completions for 106 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Wesley Molnar had 17 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown while Grant Edwards had two receptions for 50 yards and a score in the loss.


Elk Point-Jefferson 42, Flandreau 14

ELK POINT — Class 11B No. 1 Elk Point-Jefferson rolled past Flandreau in playoff action on Thursday.

EPJ’s Beau Schmitz had seven carries for 105 yards and a touchdown. Luke Schmitz added 77 yards rushing and a touchdown on four carries. Charlie Suing added a rushing touchdown. Levi Hanson and Ben Trudeau both passed for touchdowns. Beau Schmitz and Anthony Tatro both caught touchdowns. 

For Flandreau, Justin Klein rushed for 75 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown. Xavier Bien passed for 92 yards and a touchdown. Kody Kneebone hauled in five catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. 


Kimball/White Lake 14, Britton-Hecla 7

BRITTON — Johnny Lenz’s two rushing scores pushed Kimball/White Lake over Britton-Hecla during the opening round of Class 9AA football playoffs Thursday.

Lenz carried 18 times for 39 yards and two touchdowns, while Chevy Fees had eight carries for 28 yards. Keaton Christensen completed six passes for 153 yards, while Dayn Goodman caught four passes for 94 yards. Carter Konechne had two receptions for 59 yards as well. Chevy Fees led the WiLdKat defense with 17.5 tackles.

For BH, Bryce Hawkinson had 27 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown, Jace Rein completed six passes for 34 yards and an interception, while Hawkinson led the defense with 10.5 tackles.

 

Hanson 52, Viborg-Hurley 34

HURLEY — Hanson pulled away from Viborg-Hurley for a Class 9AA playoff football win on Thursday.

Hanson’s Stetson Riggs finished with 139 rushing yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Cole Dewald added 10 carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Jett Jager rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown. Jager completed 5-of-6 passes for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Jason Porth had three catches for 63 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Sutton Squires hauled in a touchdown reception.

For Viborg-Hurley, Brady Schroedermeier completed 20-of-33 passes for 273 yards with five touchdowns.


Herreid-Selby Area 22, Canistota 0

HERREID — Herreid-Selby Area ran for 175 yards as the Wolverines eliminated Canistota from Class 9B playoff action Thursday.

Thatcher Kihne tallied 12 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown, adding seven completions for 44 yards and a passing touchdown while throwing one interception. Houston Hauge had 12 carries for 48 yards and a score while Keegan Russell caught three passes for 24 yards and a touchdown in the win.

For Canistota, Easton Miller completed six-of-14 pass attempts for 32 yards and three interceptions. Prayden Acheson had eight carries for 20 yards while leading the team in tackles with 12.5 in the loss.


Alcester-Hudson 36, Deubrook Area 0

ALCESTER — Alcester-Hudson ran for 236 yards as the Cubs cruised to a shutout first round win in Thursday’s Class 9A high school football playoffs.

AH’s Tommy Walth led the Cubs with 105 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, Darin Dykstra added 10 carries for 62 yards and Karzen Sommervold scampered in for a 32-yard touchdown run as well. Walth completed five passes for 31 yards and an interception. Jackson Meyer and Jacob Cole led the Cubs defense with 4.5 tackles apiece, while Walth had four tackles and an interception in the win.

For DA, Blake Hanson completed eight passes for 35 yards and an interception. Ty Landmark ran 15 times for 75 yards while Ben Donbroski led the defense with 12.5 tackles.


Ipswich 58, Harding County-Bison 8

IPSWICH — Ipswich ran for 403 yards as the Tigers advanced to the Class 9A state quarterfinals over Harding County-Bison Thursday.

Kyle Hettich led the Tigers with 10 carries for 214 yards and five touchdowns, Casey Geditz had 12 carries for 129 yards and one passing touchdown. Hettich also caught five passes for 66 yards, while Stetson Weigel led the Tigers defense with 7.5 tackles in the win. Hayden Schlosser added a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown. 

For HCB, Elim Simmons had 16 carries for 110 yards, Tyrel Koan caught six passes for 149 yards and a touchdown, while Revyn Floyd led the Rancher defense with 8.5 tackles in the loss.


Sioux Valley 24, Parker 16

VOLGA — A late Wyatt Hardt touchdown run pushed Sioux Valley over Parker in the opening round of Class 11B playoff action Thursday.

Hardt finished the game with 23 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell Guthmiller tallied 27 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown. Hardt completed five passes for 170 yards and a touchdown, including a 60 yard touchdown to Tobin Squires. Squires caught two passes for 85 yards and a score in the win.

For Parker, Landon Wieman had six carries for 17 yards, adding eight completions for 158 yards and a touchdown pass. Colin Robertson caught four passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, while Carter Berens returned a touchdown on a fumble recovery in the loss.


Dell Rapids St. Mary 72, Irene-Wakonda 6

DELL RAPIDS — Top-seeded Dell Rapids St. Mary took down Irene-Wakonda in the opening round of the Class 9B high school football playoffs Thursday.

Lincoln LeBrun led the Cardinals with seven carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns, Trimmier Hanson added five carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns, adding a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jake Heinitz in the win as well. Jacob Geraets had 37 yards and a touchdown on three carries, Pano Skliris ran in a 24-yard score while Tomas LaVoy had two carries for 20 yards and a touchdown in the win.

For IW, Brody Johnke ran 13 times for 43 yards, completing one pass for 11 yards and a touchdown. Noah Hansen hauled in the touchdown from 11 yards out. Hansen also led the Eagles in tackles with three in the loss.


Wagner 33, Chamberlain 0

WAGNER — Gannon Knebel tallied over 300 total yards and five total touchdowns as Wagner blanked Chamberlain in the opening round of Class 11B high school football playoffs Thursday.

Knebel completed 11-of-13 pass attempts for 190 yards and two touchdowns, adding 120 yards and three more scores on the ground. Shea Kjeldgaard had 61 receiving yards and a touchdown, Cruise Koupal collected 82 yards and a touchdown through the air while Javian Pesicka pounded out 85 more rushing yards. Knebel led the defense with eight tackles while Brayden Kreber had a sack and three tackles in the win.

Chamberlain’s stats were not reported.


Clark/Willow Lake 35, Groton Area 0

CLARK — Clark/Willow Lake blanked Groton Area in Class 11B playoff action on Thursday.

CWL’s Jakob Steen rushed for 81 yards on 12 carries. Emmerson Larson added 47 yards rushing on 10 carries and. Joey Ries completed 7-of-12 passes for 54 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Talen Huber and Ernesto Garcia rushed for touchdowns. Lincoln Reidburn had a 79-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Jackson Storm hauled in a 30-yard touchdown reception from Kaden Wookey. Michael Severson posted seven tackles on defense.

For Groton Area, Asher Johnson rushed for 58 yards on 18 carries. Keegan Tracy hauled in eight catches for 110 yards. Tucker Hardy had 10 tackles.


Lennox 34, Dell Rapids 14

DELL RAPIDS — Class 11A No. 3 Lennox pulled away from No. 2 Dell Rapids for a high school football victory Thursday.

For Lennox, Jhaimann Huntington completed 13-of-16 pass attempts for 252 yards and a touchdown while Drake Mikkelsen caught three passes for 59 yards in the loss.

Dell Rapids' Drake Eastman completed nine passes for 76 yards and a touchdown, Karson Paye caught five passes for 52 yards and a score while Ryan Stubbe ran 12 times for 39 yards in the win.


Madison 20, Milbank 6

MILBANK — Class 11A No. 4 Madison hung on for a high school football victory over Milbank Thursday night.

Madison’s Henry Veenhof completed 21-of-25 pass attempts for 198 yards and three touchdowns, adding 14 carries for 59 yards. Caleb Hodges ran 19 times for 124 yards, Shane Veenhof hauled in 10 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns, Ethan Sims caught six passes for 50 yards, Nolan Nielsen had four receptions for 35 yards while Kaysen Gust caught a 15-yard touchdown in the win.

For Milbank, Braylen Bowsher completed six passes for 87 yards and two interceptions. Bennett Hunt ran 15 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, Sam Rick caught five passes for 78 yards leading the Bulldogs defensively with nine tackles.


Sioux Falls Washington 27, Tea Area 7

SIOUX FALLS — Hunter Sayasavanh tossed three touchdown passes as Sioux Falls Washington defeated Class 11AA No. 5 Tea Area in Thursday football action.

Sayasavanh completed 11-of-19 passes for 235 yards and threw three touchdown passes. He threw touchdown passes to Bronson Schramm, Sam Uhing and Jhace Woods. Uhing hauled 107 yards receiving. Braydon Jackson rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Pankonin had 15 tackles.

For Tea Area, Daschle Lowery completed 10-of-16 passes for 106 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Hayden Bialas rushed for 48 yards and Devin Rhodes posted 32 yards receiving. Carter Brown posted 11 tackles.
