Philip boys dominate Western Great Plains Conference cross-country meet

MURDO — The Philip Scotties claimed the top five spots en route to the Western Great Plains Conference boys cross-country title on Wednesday. 

Wakely Burns 16:35 won the individual race at the Murdo Golf Course and was followed through the finish by teammates Asher Peterson (17:07), Trey Larson (17:16), Tukker Boe (17:45) and Baylor Burns (17:56).

In the girls 5,000-meter race, Jones County eighth-grader BreAna Aske won in 21:00, ahead of New Underwood’s Madilyn Wolf (22:29) and Jones County’s Aubrey Tucker (23:34). Jones County’s Addison Kierl 23:47 and Wall’s Taylee Dartt (24:11) rounded out the top-five finishers. 

In the boys team standings, Philip scored six points and finished well ahead of second-place New Underwood (31). White River (34), Lyman (38) and Kadoka Area (41) rounded out the top-five teams.

In the girls team standings, Jones County won with six points and Wall (17) placed second.
