Platte-Geddes boys shine at home meet

PLATTE — Under chilly conditions with gusty winds the Platte-Geddes boys managed to invigorate the home crowd at Saturday’s Platte-Geddes Invitational. 

Skyler Hanten won the 100-meter dash (:11.59) with teammate Carson Vanden Berge finishing second (:11.69). Hanten and Vanden Berge along with Quincy Stephens and Braxton Breukelman won the 800-meter relay (1:37.62) and finished second in the 400-meter relay (:45.86). The foursome of Ty Rolland, Andrew Chaney, Gabe Fite and Isaac Leader won the 1,600-meter relay (4:02.58). 

The Black Panthers also picked up wins from Gabe Fite in the 300-meter hurdles (:47.62), Walter Graesser in the 800-meter run (2:10.85) and Jack Ringling in the discus (148-10). Parker Bailey was a double-winner in the triple-jump (38-08.25) and pole vault (12-06).

Defending Class B state track champion Gregory also had a strong day on the track. Luke Stukel won the 200-meter dash (:23.74) and anchored the winning 400-meter relay (:45.65) and ran a leg on the winning (3:47.55).

Daniel Mitchell won the high jump (6-01) and Rane Kenzy won the javelin (141-00).

Other top performances Saturday came from Winner’s Austin Blare winning the 110-meter hurdles (:16.78), Andes Central’s Peter Backes winning the 400-meter dash (:55.31), Burke’s Iker Diaz Montilla in the long jump (18-08.5) and Chamberlain’s Canyon Burkard in the shot put (43-07). 

In girl’s action Burke’s Piper Hanson won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.65), 300-meter hurdles (:48.84), 200-meter dash (:27.54) and ran a leg on Burke’s second place 400-meter relay (:53.45). Burke’s Kailee Frank won the 800-meter run (2:33.87) and 1,600-meter run (:5.37.14). Paige Bull won the discus (122-10) and finished second in the shot put (33-09.5).

Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans won the 3,200-meter run (11:44.47), anchored the Cubs’ winning sprint mede relay team (4:38.67) and anchored Chamberl, ain's 3,200-meter relay to a second place finish (11:07.27). 

The Platte-Geddes girls won the 3,200 meter relay (10:56.01), Taylor Schrank, Berklee Mills, Berkley Block and Kory VanDerWerff) and the 800-meter relay (2:00.94, Beza Fite, Ava Olson, Braelyn Qualm, Taylor Schrank). The Black Panther girls also had second place finishes in the sprint medley relay (4:42.97) and 1,600-meter relay (4:42.97).

Gregory’s Asia VanDerWerff won the 400-meter dash (1:02.96) and anchored the winning 1,600 meter relay (4:29.00).
