RAPID CITY — Rapid City Central’s Eric Errea and Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest won individual titles at Thursday’s Best of the West cross-country meet at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.

In the boys race, Errea took first place with a time of 16:07.97, RCC’s Aidan Hermansen came in second at 16:08.59, Quinn Bruch from Sturgis Brown took third place with a time of 16:30.30, while Spearfish’s Rylan DanDeest (16:40.45) and Mason Gill (15:50.22) took fourth and fifth place respectively.

The RCC boys ran away with the team title scoring 37 points, ahead of Sturgis Brown (58) and Spearfish (59).

VanDeest took the girls title by well over a minute, finishing the race in 17:39.33. Spearfish’s Kori Keil came in second place with a time of 19:00.86, Rapid City Central’s Izzy Fischer took third place finishing in 20:07.42, while RCC’s Hadley Temple (20:13.05) and Sturgis Brown’s Lucy Hamer (20:15.37) rounded out the top-5 leaders.

In the girls team race, Rapid City Central and Spearfish both scored 36 points for first place, while Sturgis Brown came in third with 59 points.
