Rapid City Stevens athletes shine at Rapid City Track-O-Rama

RAPID CITY — The Rapid City Stevens track and field captured multiple first-place finishes at Thursday’s Rapid City Track-O-Rama. 

On the girls side, Stevens’ Ava Holzwarth won the long jump with a top-10 all-time mark of 19-10.75. Teammate Holly Benson added a first-place finish in the triple jump (36-10.00) for the Raiders.

In the girls' meet, RC Stevens’ Maya Khachikian took the 100-meter hurdles (:15.01), while Kadance Holso added a first place finish in the 1,600-meter race (5:15.04) for the Raiders. Iris Birnbaum won the 3,200-meter run (11:16.22) for RCS as well.

RC Stevens’ Khachikian, Riley Willet, Holzwarth and Ella Bradeen combined to win the 400-meter relay in :47.56 seconds, breaking their own state record in the event. Khachikian, Willet, Taylor Steever and Bailey Holland won the 800-meter relay (1:44.84). Evelyn Hurley, Holso, Brinna Sheldon and Birnbaum secured the 1,600-meter relay (4:14.43) for the Raiders.

On the boys side, RC Stevens’ Jack Day took the top spot in both the 110-meter hurdles (:14.84) and the 300-meter hurdles (:40.02).

Rapid City Stevens’ Kade Olmstead won the javelin throw (170-03), while teammate Lucas Roberts won the triple jump (44-09.50).

Rapid City Central’s Fox Pendegraft won both the 100-meter (:11.10) and 200-meter dashes (:22.97).

Hill City’s Tate Grabow won two events, taking top spots in both the 800-meter (1:58.77) and 1,600-meter runs (4:23.34).

Pierre’s Caleb Morris captured first place in the 3,200-meter race (9:51.50). Sturgis Brown’s Seth Burton took first place in the 400-meter run (:50.86).

Rapid City Central’s Pendegraft, Henry Hill, Sean Smith and Onzei Weaver combined to win the 400-meter relay (:42.83), while the Cobblers quarter of Smith, Zayden Gering, Ryan Hagemann and Brayden Jackson took the 800-meter relay (1:30.34).

Pierre won the sprint medley relay with its quartet of George Rapp, Porter Hunsley, Carter Schiefelbein and Caleb Morris.

Custer’s 3,200-relay team of Kian Rusch, Zachary Cooper, Peyton Krueger and Austin Drew took the top spot with a time of 8:34.21.

Sturgis Brown’s quartet of Ephraim Brant, Zhoel Irion, Jude Legner and Burton combined to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:30.43).

In field events, Winner’s Jaxon Day won the discus (175-11). RC Central’s Coy Urban took the top spot in the high jump (6-06).

Wall’s Dawson Handcock won the long jump event (22-06). Douglas’ Brodie Slancauskas took first place in the pole vault (12-09). St. Thomas More’s Maxon Speed secured first place in the shot put event (54-05.00).

In other girls events, Bennett County’s Peyson O’Neill took first in the 300-meter hurdles (:46.15) and second in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.03).

Pierre’s Charlee Williams-Smith secured first place in the 200-meter dash (:26.21).

Hot Springs’ Ashlynn Elshere won the 400-meter race (:58.49).

Rapid City Christian’s Maddie Kooiman took first place in the 800-meter race (2:23.17).

Spearfish’s Gabrielle Ranek, Sierra Sandorf, Marley Mosset and Peyton VanDeest combined to win the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (4:10.42) while Kori Keil, Auna Taglioli, Sandford and VanDeest secured the 3,200-meter relay (9:17.09) for the Spartans.

In field events, Custer’s Karyn Ellerton secured a first-place finish in the discus (123-07), while teammate Tenlee Stiefel secured the pole vault event (12-06.00).

Philip’s Drew Terkildsen won the high jump event (5-02). Rapid City Central’s Leah Landry secured the javelin throw title (126-11).
