Rapid City Stevens runs away with Class AA state girls tennis championship

RAPID CITY — After a one-year hiatus, Rapid City Stevens won another Class AA girls state tennis championship on Friday.

The Raiders won back-to-back Class AA state championships in 2021 and ‘22, and finished as the state runner-ups in ‘23 to Sioux Falls Lincoln. 

On Friday, Stevens flipped the script and ran away with the state championship, while Lincoln earned a second-place finish. The Raiders racked up 509 points, while the Patriots finished with 366 points. 

Yankton (311.5), Watertown (294.5) and Mitchell (284) rounded out the top-five teams. 


In singles action, Rapid City Stevens’ Sylvie Mortimer (Flight 2), Ella Potvin (Flight 3), Madison Marsh (Flight 4) and Bella Nelson (Flight 5) all win state championships to power the team title. 

Yankton’s Nora Krajewski (Flight 1) won the other singles state championship. 

In doubles action, Rapid City Stevens’ Arabella Scott and Elena Braun (Flight 2) and Marsh and Nelson (Flight 3) won state championships for the Raiders.
