Raptors, Bankers set to meet in quarterfinals

MITCHELL — Dimock-Emery held off a late inning rally by Milbank to escape to Thursday’s quarterfinals at the South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Tournament with a 5-4 win on Sunday.

The Raptors jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the fourth inning but the Firechiefs cut the lead to 5-3 with two runs in the top of the sixth and added a run in the top of the ninth.

Phil Johnson picked the win for Dimock, pitching a complete game while giving up four runs on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked none.

Johnson added a double to go along with his two hits to help his own cause. Gene Kitchens and Sam Michels also added two hits.

Brady Krause, Lance Frogner and Dominique Boerger led Milbank at the plate with two hits each.

Taylor Boerger took the loss for the Firechiefs — pitching 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits before handing the ball off to Dominique Boerger who pitched the final 4 1/3 innings.

The Raptors will meet the Plankinton F&M Bankers, which cruised to a 13-3, seven inning win over Menno in Sunday’s late game.

The Bankers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning and added a run in the second and fourth innings before opening the floodgates again in the fifth with five more runs and added another run in the sixth.

Trevor Salmonson led the Bankers at the plate with three hits while Cole Knippling added two hits including a double.

Ryland Devries picked up the win for Plankinton — pitching seven innings while giving up three runs on six hits.

Tyler Miller, Macon Oplinger and Spencer Schultz led the Mad Frogs with two hits each while Oplinger took the loss — pitching five innings, giving up 12 runs on 11 hits. Jamison Kleinsasser came in for relief in the sixth and pitched the final two innings, giving up one run on two hits.
