Seniors Sawyer Stoebner, Mahli Abdouch headline Class AA girls basketball all-state team

Two standout seniors and a group of underclassmen make up this year’s Class AA girls basketball all-state first team.

Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Mahli Abdouch and Mitchell’s Sawyer Stoebner are the lone seniors the all-state first team, which was selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. Abdouch is the Class AA girls basketball player of the year. 

Abdouch and Stoebner are joined in the first team by Brandon Valley sophomore Alyvia Padgett, Rapid City Stevens junior Taaliyah Porter, Sioux Falls Jefferson freshman Brinley Altenburg and Sioux Falls Washington junior Grace Peterson. 

Abdouch, a 5-foot-8 senior guard, is making her third straight Class AA all-state first-team selection. A future South Dakota State University women’s basketball player, Abdouch averaged 16.3 points, 3.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game for the Class AA state champs. She scored 1,266 career points, finishing as the 21st leading scorer in Class AA girls basketball history.

Stoebner, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, is making her second straight Class AA all-state first-team selection. She was a second-team all-stater in 2022. Stoebner was the Class AA Spirit of Su recipient, while she guided the Kernels to a sixth-place finish at the state tournament. Stoebner scored 1,174 career points, finishing as the 26th leading scorer in Class AA girls basketball history. She will play college basketball at Black Hills State University. 

A 5-foot-7 sophomore guard, Padgett is making her first all-state team. Padgett averaged 13.8 points and three assists per game, leading the Lynx to a Class AA runner-up finish. 

Porter was a Class AA all-state second-team selection last season. She logged a Class AA-high 19.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season. A 5-foot-8 junior guard, Porter has scored 1,137 career points. She led Stevens to an eighth-place finish at the Class AA state tourney. 

A 5-foot-10 freshman guard, Altenburg is the youngest player on the Class AA all-state first team. She averaged 17.1 points and 3.1 assists per game for the Cavaliers, who took third place at the Class AA state tourney. 

A 6-foot junior forward, Peterson was a second-team all-stater last season. She averaged 12.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Warriors.
