Sept. 26 Volleyball Roundup - Dakota Valley edges Sioux Falls Christian in five-set thriller

Dakota Valley 3, Sioux Falls Christian 2

SIOUX FALLS — Class A No. 3 Dakota Valley outlasted Class A No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian in a five-set high school volleyball match on Thursday. The set scores were 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25 and 15-7.

Dakota Valley’s Claire Munch finished with 21 kills, 21 digs and three blocks. Sammy Kimball posted 19 kills. Madie Munch posted 50 assists and two blocks. Reagan Granstrom logged two aces, four assists and 25 digs. 

For Sioux Falls Christian, Brietta Tims had 13 kills, 13 digs and two aces. Jayla Overman posted 13 kills and three blocks. Rachel Dielerman had 10 kills and three blocks. Addisen Barber finished with 39 assists, seven digs, four kills and two blocks. Aubrie Van Beek posted 13 digs. Camdyn Mulder had seven kills and one block. Meredith Nelson added three kills and five digs. 


Elk Point-Jefferson 3, Beresford 0

ELK POINT — Elk Point-Jefferson earned a straight set victory over Beresford during Thursday’s volleyball action. The set scores were 25-18, 25-12, and 25-11.

Bentlee Kollbaum tallied 12 kills and 11 digs, Ashley Brewer had eight kills, Courtney brewer dished out 36 assists, Kaitlyn Van Roekel had 15 digs, Jillyan VandeVegt had 11 kills and six blocks, while Cera Schmitz tallied eight kills and four digs in the win.

Beresford stats were not reported.


Kimball/White Lake 3, Wagner 1

WAGNER — Kimball/White Lake earned a four-set victory over Wagner during Thursday’s high school volleyball action. The set scores were 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-22.

Kyza Johnson tallied 15 kills and four blocks, Rylee McCord had 11 kills and 16 digs, Sienna Gillen racked up 20 digs and three aces, Mariah Gosmire tallied 52 assists and two blocks, while Lindy Kiehn had nine kills in the victory.

Wagner’s Ravyn Medricky had 10 kills, 23 digs, and five blocks, Hannah Holzbauer tallied 14 kills and 23 digs, while Libby Kotab recorded 19 digs and four aces in the loss as well.


Northwestern 3, Waubay-Summit 0 

MELLETTE — Northwestern swept Waubay-Summit in Thursday high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-10, 25-9 and 25-8.

Northwestern’s Ashley Haven finished with 19 kills and four blocks. Anna Brumfield posted eight kills. Ella Boekelheide added 30 assists, three blocks and three aces. Payton Grandpre had seven digs and three aces. Tara Blachford had seven digs and Sophia Troske had five digs. 

Waubay-Summit stats were not reported. 


Viborg-Hurley 3, Howard 1

HOWARD — Viborg-Hurley defeated Howard in a four-set high school volleyball match on Thursday. The set scores were 25-19, 25-18, 18-25 and 26-24.

Viborg-Hurley’s Addison Huth had 11 kills and one block. Natali Blair logged 11 assists. Danica Gordon recorded six kills and one block. Aubree Schwartz posted three aces and 20 digs. Charley Nelson finished with 38 digs. Jenna Graves and Olivia Hansen had two aces. 

Howard’s Tana Hoyer finished with 10 kills and two blocks. Hannah Brown and Dakota Spader had five kills apiece. Spader added three aces and 25 digs. Brown had 24 digs. Kenya Kizer logged two blocks. Reese Rudebusch had 25 assists. 


Avon 3, Colome 0 

AVON — Avon swept Colome in a Thursday high school volleyball match. The set scores were 25-8, 25-9 and 25-23.

Avon’s Lila Vanderlei recorded 11 kills, two aces and eight digs. Kaeli Wallinga posted seven kills and three blocks. Rilyn Thury added six kills and three aces. Brielle Voigt added 19 assists. Jordyn Voigt and Lexi Vanderlei had six digs apiece. 

For Colome, Raelynn Kingsley had seven kills, while Aleah Musser, Emme Nelsen and Aspyn McKenzie had two kills apiece. Kingsley had a block. Westlie Cahoy had 16 digs and McKenzie added 13 digs. Gracie Rhode posted nine assists.


Ipswich 3, Langford Area 1

IPSWICH — Ipswich earned a four-set victory over Langford Area during Thursday’s high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 23-25, and 25-20.

Ipswich’s Marley Guthmiller had 18 kills and a team-high 35 digs, Josie Knutson tallied 18 assists, Kaylin Onken had 12 kills. Karlie Weisser and Anna Nierman each had three blocks, while Brianna Geditz tallied six aces in the win.

Langford Area’s Emily Olson had five kills, Paytyn Marlow dished out six assists, Alexandria Darling tallied 17 digs, while Eliana Darling had 15 digs, four blocks, and three kills in the loss.


North Central 3, Strasburg-Zeeland (N.D.) 0

EUREKA — North Central earned a straight set sweep over Strasburg-Zeeland during Thursday’s volleyball action. The set scores were 25-7, 25-10, and 25-10.

North Central’s Amree Vander Vorst had 10 kills, Camryn Witlock dished out 19 assists, while Ashton Hayne tallied eight digs. Lindsey Geier, Makaylah Jones, and Ella Batie each tallied four kills in the victory as well.


Burke 3, Bon Homme 0

BURKE — Class B No. 2 Burke took down Bon Homme in a straight set sweep during Thursday’s volleyball action. The set scores were 25-10, 25-8, and 25-9.

Kailee Frank tallied seven kills, eight digs, and three aces, Paige Bull had five kills and four blocks, Emmie Hausmann had five kills, Ava Sargent tallied six assists, while Kyrie Matucha had eight digs, five assists, and two aces in the win.

Bon Homme’s Kenadee Kozak had five kills and 10 digs, Emersyn Tucker and Kendra Bechtold each had nine digs, while Aspen Schonebaum tallied six assists in the loss.


Bon Homme 3, Chamberlain 1

BURKE — Bon Homme defeated Chamberlain in a four-set high school volleyball match on Thursday. The set scores were 25-14, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-18.

Bon Homme’s Olivia Kaul recorded nine kills, five aces and one block.  Raelee Lanphear posted eight kills. Kenadee Kozak had one block, seven kills and 12 digs. Danni Kotalik added four aces. Emersyn Tucker had 12 digs. Aspen Schonebaum posted 26 assists.

For Chamberlain, Jovie VanDenBosch had 11 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Natalie Nelson and Maisy Peterson posted five kills apiece and four digs. Grace VanDerLey had 10 digs. Jayde McQuirk posted 24 assists. 


Burke 3, Chamberlain 0

BURKE — Burke defeated Chamberlain in straight sets during Thursday’s high school volleyball action. The set scores were 25-4, 25-9, and 25-10.

Paige Bull tallied seven kills and five blocks, Emmy Spencer had 14 assists and five aces, Emmie Hausmann tallied six kills and three aces, Ava Sargent had 11 assists, while Kailee Frank recorded nine kills and 10 digs in the win.

Chamberlain’s Maisy Peterson tallied two kills and three blocks, Jayde McQuirk had three assists and an ace, while Jovie VanDenBosch recorded four digs in the loss.


Sioux Falls Jefferson 3, Brandon Valley 1

SIOUX FALLS — Class AA No. 3 Sioux Falls Jefferson defeated Brandon Valley in a four-set high school volleyball match on Thursday. The set scores were 25-14, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-22.

Jefferson’s Peyten Krull finished with 16 kills, 20 digs and four aces. Emory Brosnahan added 16 kills, six aces and nine digs. Sienna Sabers had seven kills and seven digs. Abby Horner recorded 13 digs. Isabel Simmons had seven kills, two aces and one block. Brooke Bowen logged 22 digs, while Averi Schmitt added 17 digs and 39 assists. 

Brandon Valley’s Jayaunna Stroh finished with 16 kills, 14 digs and two blocks. Abby Gruber added eight kills. Mya VanWesten recorded 35 digs and two aces. Logan McGuire posted 15 digs and three aces. Riya Sheley had 18 assists and Ashley Ertelt logged three blocks.
